Advice for first FET!!

Post by cheekymonkey »

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me, I am going for my first FET on Thursday!!
I have never got to ET as my first IVF was cancelled due to OHSS!
The thing is that I have read so many things that I think I have confused myself!! and when I do that I always know I can count on this board to straighten things out for me!
I just wondered if anyone had any success stories with thier first FET or if anyone had any thoughs about what is the best things to do ie what to eat, what not to eat, can I exercise if so how much!!!!
I know I am probably being over the top but it has taken me so long to get to this first ET I want to do all I can!!
Any comments would be great!!
Thanks

Hi Vicky,

I remember you too, I am so sorry for your loss, I hope that you are OK!!
Thank you for your kind words, I will keep you posted, I always get confused on these boards cause they move so fast, but I will try and keep in touch. I have to phone the lab on wednesday to find out how the thawing process went!! I am so nervous about that!!!
I hope that things go well for you in April, it is not that far away, it is march on Thursday and when you consider we were in the Nov thread together and now here we are, I am sure it will pass in no time at all!!

Hi Cheekymonkey

I have just done my first FET and got a BFP!!! I never thought it would work first time but it did and they only put 1 embie back. All I can suggest is just to look after yourself and take it easy, I can't answer about exercise I walk my dog each day but that's about it.

Wishing you lots of luck and I hope you too get a BFP and you Vicky. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

Haylie,

WOW, Congratulations on your BFP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your message was just what I wanted to hear.
I know the exercise thing is a bit vague, I don't work though and most days I just go out to the shops just for a walk so I presume that would be ok!! How many days did you rest completley for before going out? and if you dont mind me asking what kind of diet did you eat? I am just a bit of a worrier and would hate to do anything which I would then regret!! but then I get mad because I dont want to worry and be stressed because I think that is bad too!!! AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
OK, sorry about that I am fine really!! HaHa
Anyway thank you for your input, these success stories are really great at this point!!

Cheekymonkey- I can honestly say I didn't really rest and I was also going through a really rough personal time so I am ashamed to say my diet wasn't the best, I just didn't expect it to work so I didn't really try. So my baby is my little miracle. But I would advise taking care of yourself and resting whenever you feel like it, just try and listen to your body.

Am keeping everything crossed for you

Hi Cheekymonkey, i was also on Nov thread, since then i have done 2 FET's, they are so easy much less strain on the body. I took the following day off work by choice, clinic just said to take it easy. I followed same protocol as for a fresh cycle, no alcohol, caffeine, soft eggs, pate etc ie: anything you avoid if pregnant. No heavy lifting, hoovering etc.make DH do all the work for a couple of days!! I had a really bad ear infection had antibiotics, went on my chest, coughing like crazy and i still got a low positive.unfortunately it did not stick around again, i am awaiting furthertests before i go again.
I am sure your clinic will advise about exercise, i do a lot of walking and just took it easier/slower than normal.

good luck and keep us posted.

hi cheeky monkey

My first FET i got a positive and now have 20 month old twins i found out of all my cycles the FET to be the easiest and less stressful in the 2 week wait i did no special dieting and tried to do all the normal stuff i would normally do apart from heavy lifting.

I no its hard just try not to stress to much and stay as positive as you can i wish you loads of luck

Hi All,

I want to thank-you all for your posts, I have not been part of the month threads this time because I find it very difficult to keep up with them all, so all of your comments have been a great help to me!!

Well my FET went ahead yesterday, out of the 5 embryos that made it through the thaw, 2 of them made it through the night and the doctor said they divided well. So we had both of them put back in yesterday afternoon and I am offically on my 2ww!!!!!!!!!!!

Haylie - Thank you so much for your advice, I will deffinatley be listening to my body over the next two weeks, I just need to try and not listen to it too much and talk myself into things, I am just trying to keep calm!!!! HaHa easier said than done!!!

Beachbaby - I remember you too from the Nov thread, I agree with you that the FET is less strain on the body and I felt much fitter and stronger both physically and mentally this time round.
I am so sorry for your loss, I hope that you get your BFP soon with one of those 7 frosties waiting for you. Do you know when your next attempt will be?

Susan - Wow, it was great to hear that you had twins with your first attempt, I am trying to stay positive but am just a little worried about being too positive cause the dissapointment can be so much worse, I would say that I am positive but realistic!! I bet you have your hands full with those twins!!!!!!!!

Hi Charlie - Thank you for thinking about me and my FET, I think that everybodys thoughts help alot here, As I said before everything went fine and it is all deffinatley alot easier than the fresh cycle, but I had ohss so suffered quite a bit so compared to that, this was a breeze!! The 2ww is kind of weird though, I think I just feel numb and everything seems a bit surreal!!
I hope that all goes well for you in March (not long now) and if you are still in touch I will be cheering you on when it is your turn.

Oh well, DH has got my dinner ready now so I had better go, it's great being pampered!!!!!

Take Care

hi cheeky monkey

glad to hear your transfer went well and you now have your little frosties on board.

i no what you mean about the dissapointment my first 2 attempts were not great i too got ohss after my first transfer was not nice at all and i was terrible for worrying about things on the 2ww i dont think there is one person that could say they were totaly calm i think what i am trying to say is do what ever feels right for you and dont regret doing something thinking it may change what happens, good to hear DH is pampering you thats one thing i took advantage of.

wishing you a smooth 2ww and loads of luck

yep the twins are very busy and keep me on my toes but very adorable too

good luck and take care

Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom, I think I am doing exactly what you have said, I am not wrapping myself in cotton wool but just being very aware of what I am doing before I do it!! I have been resting and going for short strolls with DH just so I can get out of the house, still making tea but not doing other housework!!
I don't feel overly stressed just the normal amout I think anyone would feel in the 2ww!!!
I will keep in touch and let you know how things go!!
Once again thank you for your in-put.
