Question for Ghost re timing of ET

Post by mcmillac »

Hi Ghost

I hope you can help me on this....

We are having our 3rd FET just now (1st round of ICSI was abandoned due to high risk of OHSS, ret'd 21 eggs)

Our 1st (natural) FET we had 2 embies transferred - our clinic grade them out of 10 so it was a 9 and a 7 day and a 2 day transfer - they were transferred on day 15 of my cycle. The 2nd FET we had 2 poor quality embies transferred - a 5 and 6 out of 10 on day 16 of my cycle, day 2 transfer

This time we have good grade embies - 9 and 8 but these day 2 embies were tranferred on day 14 of my cycle. I questioned with my clinic why the varynig cycle dates but they just said they have porotocls to follow and timing was fine and my hormone levels looked good as well.

What do you think? I would assume timing was very important and yet I've had 3 seperate FETs done on 3 different cycle days - does it matter that much?

Any information you could give on this would be greatly appreciated. The success rate at our clinic is 30%

Thanks

First off, best of luck with your FET.

We don't do natural cycles, so I have no experience with them. But I see they tried days 14, 15, and 16. I suppose it might make sense to vary the protocol if a previous approach failed?

Or perhaps you ovulated on different days in each cycle? They may be timing the transfer to be a few days after ovulation, about the time when a day 2 embryo should be present. By watching your progesterone levels, they can tell when you ovulate, and time the transfer accordingly.

I suspect they are trying the latter, but again, I have no experience with natural cycles, and that's definitely not my clinic.

30% is the national average live birth rate for FET cycles in patients under 35. I suspect the average positive pregnancy rate is around 40-45%, but they don't publish that.

Thank you Ghost for your reply!!!

I always get my LH surge on day 13 of my cycle although my cycle has varied from 28-30 days on each FET.

I guess I just need to trust them in that they know what they are doing and have done this so many times before.

Take care
