Hi Sharon- I just had my egg retrieval yesterday and am on amoxicilin and asked the RE that did the retrieval what I can/cannot do if I end up with a yeast infection. She just said to call the office if it happens and they'll deal with it then. She did not seem alarmed at all. I'm also doing the progesterone by vaginal applicator and that didn't seem to phase her either (if I get one). Sorry I'm not much help but just thought you'd like to know that someone else may be in the same boat, jsut a little further into the process (I'm actually worried about the antibiotics, too, but they've all reassured me that this one is safe during pregnancy). I would call your doctor, though, and just see what they say. I know they cleanse the area well before either process. I've just been trying to stay away from sugar, yeast, mushrooms, etc. that can make a YI worse.

Good luck and let me know what you find out.

thanks for the reply heidi
I know that taking antibiotics triggers yeast growth .That is normal and happens to many women undergoing ivf. But i don't want the yeast to be there during egg transfer esp. becoz i have read at many places that yeast infection can be pushed inside the uterus during the process. I don't want that to happen.
Do they clean the vaginal area before retrieval and transfer ??
keep in touch

Hi Sharon,

Don't know a lot about infection during IVF, sounds like its not all that uncommon though so hopefully it won't cause any issues for your embies. I just wanted to give you my 2 cents...it is standard protocol at my clinic to do a vinegar douche the night b/f ER and the morning of ER, this may clean out any potential bacteria, maybe you can run this by your RE and see what she thinks.

hi Patsy
thanks for the reply
I had previously used yogurt to cure my YI but it aggravated it instead of curing it. so i am little sceptical about vinegar .
The problem is my RE says all the time that my infection is very light and may be i do not have any . The symptoms i am having is due to some allery .
I am but sure i don't have any allery the culprit is yeast becoz i have had it before manytimes.
she had advised me to use monistat 3 .
