2nd times a charm?? Anyone else scheduled for March/April??

Post by smattison »

This will be my second try (4/2/07 harvest and between 5th-7th implantation). I start a new stim cycle 3/21/07. 37yo and a high FSH level. I have 3 children from a previous marriage and just remarried last year. I had a tubal post partum with my last child 10 years ago. My children are all boys, 17, 12 and 10.

My new husband is 34, never been married and has no children of his own...we want a baby so badly.

The 1st try was 1/29/07 harvest and implanted 2/2/07. 11 eggs, 7 fertilized, but we only had 1 good egg and 2 ok eggs. We implanted all 3. I was devastated when they told me no on 2/12/07. I never thought I would hear those words.

Anyone out there been through the same...I really need someone to talk to that understand and doesn't keep telling me it will be OK.

Hey Stephanie!
I also just finished with my first round of IVF. We don't have any children and have been ttc for about 6 years.
We had 5 out of 11 eggs fertilize, 3 of which were what they called 'good'. We actually originally told them we would put a max of 3 embies back in but they talked us in to only putting 2 back, because as they put it "we dont want you to have triplets". So we froze the extra one, and it turned out one of the ones that "didn't look so good" they were able to freeze anyway.
We just got a negative beta this morning. We also were very much hoping we would only have to do this once. I guess not. Why we all have to go through this...I'm not quite sure. I wish there was better answers out there.
So, I just wanted to let you know I'm with ya. Good luck with your cycle coming up in March. Keep us posted.

nickster-
Thank you so much for the support. We all need it when we are going throught this...husbands are great but they truely can't understand.

I am so sorry to hear about your negative beta. (beta=pregnancy test?) This is my first time here and I am just trying to get all the abreviations...lol. Are you going to try again? I to tought only once for me...it seems like such a waste of money when it does not work. I just start birth control again a little over a week ago and I hate taking them, they make me sick.

Hi Stephanie,

Post by kellym »

It sure is a discouraging process when it doesn't work. I am soon to start my fourth attempt and after each failed attempt I seem to get increasingly sad. I supppose it doesn't help that the doctors don't understand why it isn't working for me and they keep saying that it 'should work'.
I have now been through 5 cycles (2 cancelled before ER) which have consisted of 3 different protocols... I have never used Lupron. Over the course of the protocols I have used Suprefact, Gonal-F, Centrotide, Repronex and Puregon. What drugs do they have you on for your second attempt?
We have switched to a new clinic for this cycle so we'll see if that helps. Someone told me that sometimes the embryologists can make a difference. I don't know if it is true but it gives me renewed hope!
Best of luck on April. I hope you'll soon be celebrating your BFP!!!

i am going to be starting my 3rd cycle in march waiting for af. my first cycle was cancelled because the lupron had me suppressed to much so i didnt make it to ET i had alot of follicules but wouldnt grow and i just finished 2nd cycle in feb and got a bfn on valentines day so how depressing is that. and the protocol changed to no lupron and only 7-10days i had 6 eggs and 4 fertilized they said my eggs where text book and i put back 3 eggs. and know when i do my 3rd cycle my protocol will be the same except they are going to increase my dosage i was on repronex and gonalf together and then cetroide. and cant wait to af to try again but not to anxious because i dont another bfn.

I am a little numb. however alittle optomistic. I have enough menopur to supple the country with; so that expense is out of the way. Infact today they sent me another 88.
I am going for my next cycle in April or may. I am not sure of the best approach. My IVF clinic is in Barbados and I really don't want to make an uneccessary trip because my embies wont survive the thaw any tips.

I have 2 waitng for me.

The 1st time I took Lupron 10units for the entire time...almost a month. the did lower it towards the end to 5units. I also took Follistim the whole time and then Menapur for the last 4 days. 36 hours beofre EC I took a trigger shot called Ovitrell. This thim they say they are doing the same thing just minus the Lupron. That scares me since the Lupron keeps you from Ovulating prematurely. I start stimming on March 21st and EC on April 2nd. I really hope this works!
