*UPDATE!! - Has this happened to anyone......?

Post by positive_thinking »

Hello everyone! I'm new, so let me introduce myself.
My name is Kathryn and I'm 32 yrs old. And my husband is 42. I have had two IVF transfers. The first was unsuccessful, and this last attempt, has been successful!!! (hopefully) I have a question or two about it, and unfortunately my dr appointment isn't for two weeks, so I thought someone on here would be able to give me some input.
I had my transfer February 11. They transfered two embryos, that were ICSI'd. They were both fertilized and normal. On Feb 20 I started spotting. So I was thinking, IMPLANTATION YAY!!. But no, it went from light spotting to heavy heavy.....heavy. So I called the dr and went in for a blood test on the 23rd. (my test was scheduled for the 25th so I went early b/c of the bleeding). Anyway, my test came back positive. A low positive. My number was 36. So I went back Feb 25 for another test, and it was still positive, and rising! It doubled to 65. Still thinking positive, I went back for a 3rd test Feb 27 and it doubles again! I was at 146. A definative prego number. My concern is, what in the world caused all that heavy heavy (did I mention it was heavy?) bleeding? Has anyone had any experience like this? Any comments would be great!

So, I didn't get lucky with anyone having any experience with this. Now I'm wondering if anyone knows if my situation sounds like it could be an ectopic pregnancy. I'm worrying myself sick, especially with the internet right in front of me, teilling me all kinds of negative things.
I started looking up ectopic pregs. and the cramp on one side of the belly...I have...dizzyness....I have. Then there's the heavy bleding I had. Could my uterus have shed and the embryo ended up in a tube? I usually say "I'm not a doctor I just play one on t.v" but this sounds a bit scary to me. Does anyone think it might be? 11 days till I go see the doctor :(

Hi,

I have no experience with ectopic pregnancies but if I were you I would call my clinic and explain your worries. They are so experienced that if they think there is a problem they will tell you. If they are unconcerned, then you can relax. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi,

My sister-in-law had a natural pregnancy and thought she was miscarring. She also had heavy heavy bleeding. My niece is now one years old. I have heard some girls just bleed. What has your dr said about the bleeding?

I had an ectopic this past summer. My dr just thought it was a biochemical and did not keep checking my hcg, but ectopic hcgs usually don't rise like yours did. Mine went from a 24 only up 2 points 72 hours later. Then two weeks later it was 836. I did not have heavy bleeding and it took a long time to have my hcg drop and to bleed at all. Hope this helps!! Stay positive!!

I have an update and a kind of positive light to anyone who experiences bleeding after a transfer!!
In the previous post I was bleeding, heavily. It stopped, and my ultrasound was scheduled for this Tuesday for my 6 week visit. The day before yesterday I had very bad cramps. Almost to where I couldn't walk or sit comfortably. I had just gone through something stressful, so I chalked it up as stress and I NEEDED to calm down! The next day, yesterday, I started spotting very lightly. Then about 9pm I bled like I'd never seen! Way heavier than the last time, and what came with the bleeding was 3 blood clots, the biggest one being about a quarter the size of a golf ball (sorry if it's too much info!) So I started to panic, and called the IVF doc on call and she told me to come in for blood work and an ultrasound the next day (today).
I JUST came back, and when I went in I was propared for the worst. BUT!!!! she saw the Gsac, the yolk fluid, and THE BABY!!! It's about 2mm in length and she saw something else......wait for it...wait for it.....
THE HEARTBEAT!!!
I couldn't believe it, and she couldn't either because I'm so early in pregnancy.
So if you can't tell im ecstatic!!! This is so excitng. This isn't just a post to help me calm myself down, but it's to show everyone that you just never know!!! Even if you have cramps, twinges, even bleeding, keep thinking positive!!

Well, the first attempt, they were only able to transfer one embryo. I didn't respond to the meds as I should have, and just before my retrival I ovulated. I was looking good with 14 eggs, but I ovulated and they were suprised, but I had 4 eggs still hanging on. They retrieved those, but they weren't good quality. even the one they transferred wasn't the best. But they gave it a shot anyway.
Now this one, they had me on an orgalutron cycle, and I responded as I was supposed to. One major thing I did differently was take a lot of time off work. 3 weeks to be exact! Quite the vacation! I just didn't want to go through the cycle again if the second failed so I did everything possible to help it work. But like I said, I responded to the meds, so I probably could have gone to work in those few weeks. But don't tell my boss!!!

Also, I just spoke with my doctor again, and she thinks that two embryos implanted, and the pain and bleeding and clots was a miscarraige because my pregnancy hormone level is very very high. So lets hope the second one holds on!
