Opinions vary on this.
The answer will depend on:
1. Your willingness to have twins or triplets. Most of the triplets born in the US are from IVF, even though IVF is only a tiny fraction of all pregnancies.
2. Your clinics' usual practice.
3. What type of embryos (stage of development) they will transfer. If they use blastocysts, they will probably transfer fewer than if they transfer day 2 or day 3 embryos.
4. The number and quality of your embryos. With higher quality, fewer are needed to get a good chance of success.
5. Your clinic's success rate with frozen embryos. If they have good success rates with frozens, then freezing the extras is a great option.
In addition to this, there are widely varied opinions in the industry regarding exactly how risky twins are, and there is an ongoing debate in the literature.
One doctor told me he once transferred 17 embryos. That was long ago, when implantation rates were much lower. I think he said twins resulted.
There are some publications that argue the transfer of more than one or two embryos does not appreciably increase the chance of birth, but only increases the rate of multiples (twins, triplets, and more). Makes sense.
Hope this helps.
