Positive, but....

Post by Dolly »

Hi girls, as you can see I tested positive today, but unfortunately that bit of news comes with a big but, which is....

I started spotting last Monday which I wasn't very worried about, but the last couple of days I have had really bad AF pains and real blood and some clots (it always happens around the same time between 2-4pm and then stops till the next day). The test was really faint this morning (I did another one this evening and it was slightly darker)and I am 14 days past transfer, shouldn't it be darker by now? I was pregnant exactly this time last year and the symptoms were exactly the same and it ended up being ectopic. I am so scared that I am going to lose this baby or worse still it is another ectopic.

I am going to call my clinic on Monday and ask them if they will do a blood test (they don't usually), but hopefully given my history they will.

Do you think there is any hope that everything will work out ok?

Love

Dolly

dolly,

i do think there is hope for you and pray that everything is ok. the positive is that you've done two tests and they're getting stronger. af pains seem to be common, i know that the bleeding must be really worrying for you both.

i'm sure that your clinic will do a blood test - even if you have to pay for it, it must be worth it. they might do a scan too, particularly given your history. i know that they won't be able to see the embryo yet but they will be able too see the uterus and maybe why the bleeding. my clinic gave me a scan on the 1st day of my result because like you i've had an ectopic too. don't give up and find the strength to make sure the clinic see's to you asap. praying for you.

phil x

Hi Dolly, I don't have an answer to your question really, except that you've got a positive result which got stronger between tests which I'd have thought must mean that things are moving in the right direction. All I know about ectopics is what I've read on these boards, and from that I'm not sure whether the blood test would give you any indication, so as Fi says, do press to get things checked as soon as possible. Try to believe that these could just be "normal" pregnancy symptoms for you, and that you were just unlucky last time with the ectopic.

Keeping absolutely everything crossed for you Dolly, much love

Alison x

Dolly

just wanted to echo what the others have said, you must insist on a blood test and as Phil says if they can scan your uterus that might help put your mind at rest.

Praying for you, take care
Love Lisa xx

Hi Dolly

I'm sorry you've had to wait over the weekend to get it checked out, but I hope that the clinic will be able to give you a scan right away and set your mind at rest that everything is ok. They may suggest doing repeat hcg tests to make sure the blood levels are doubling. I think if it is an ectopic they wouldn't double. lots of people do get bleeding at the initial stages of pregnancy but I know saying that won't make you any less worried about it. am crossing my fingers for you LOL beckym xxx

just wanted to add something I just thought about last night- Wibbs had very similar sysmptoms to you and I think what happened was it was because she had lost one of the embies, but the other one was fine. also re pregnancy test, i did mine on day 16 and line wasn't all that strong even though my hcg reading that day was 299. It seemed to get stronger the longer I left it in the cupboard!)ie next day it was clearer)so wouldn't worry on that score. good luck Dolly xxxx

Hi Dolly,
Brilliant news on your positive! I do hope your clinic can put your mind at rest - from what the other girls who've had ectopics have said it sounds as if they should.
Although your symptoms sound a bit scary and it's natural you're worried, they could v well be 'normal' pregnancy symptoms, not related to ectopic but just what happens to you when pregnant. I really hope so. Keeping everything crossed for you and looking out for your next message. Well done again, love Beck xx

Hi there, thanks for your replies.

The good news is that I havn't had any further bleeding since Saturday (touch wood!). I spoke to the hospital and they have said I should continue taking pessaries and test again on Saturday. It is probably not the answer I wanted - but I have trusted their judgement so far and have been pleased with their care - so I will just have to be patient for a bit longer.

Another positive is that my boobs are killing me - I feel like someone has pumped them up and filled them with razor blades!

Keep your fingers (and anything else you can cross!) crossed for us.

Thanks again

Love

Dolly
