Hi girls!!! I have missed so much in just a few days!! I'm going to try to catch up with everybody but sorry in advance if I miss something. I'll blame it on my current state of hormone overload!

Well, I started my Stimms on Friday night. Was very nervous for some reason. Not sure why as the Stimms are administered with a pen and I've heard everybody talk about how easy that is. But I've gotten so comfortable with the needles that anything new scares me. Weird, I know.

But I'm happy to report that it went very well. The medication definitely burns but I've found that making sure it is at room temp, icing before and using a heating pad afterwards helps quite a bit.

DH had to leave early this morning to go to New York City for business :( so my mom has come into town for 3 days to stay with me. I'm still too scared to do any of my shots so she is going to do them while DH is away. He gave her a "tutorial" last night and she was amazed at how well I handle them. See I think we are all so much stronger than we give ourselves credit for!! The shots become part of our "norm" and we forget that most people would cringe at the thought of just one shot, let alone multiple shots every day!! IVF girls are AWESOME!! That's my motto from here on out! :D

So, on to personals…where to begin?!?!?

Kandice- 29 embies!!!!! OMG!!! :o I think I will relinquish my overachiever title bestowed on me by Smarty Socks Shantala and hand it over to you! That's amazing!! When is your ET?? You will have to let me know how the PIO shots go. I freaked when I saw those needles. They are so big!! Ouch. Luckily I think I only have to do 4 of those and then I switch to suppositories 2x a day. Messy but less painful. I guess it's a trade off...

Katt- Good luck on your trigger shot!! I'm sure you will have no problems. You are a superwoman after all!

Cook- I'm glad that you are already on your way. The 23rd is just around the corner!! I'm really excited for you. I hope this cycle is a BFP!!

Stephanie- I honestly wouldn't worry too much about bleeding during BCP. If you have been off them for a while it's probably just your body adjusting. I'm sure you are fine. Sorry to hear you have another pg sil…I know how hard that is. I'm sure you are happy for them but at the same time it's a reminder of all we are going through when it comes so easily to some…difficult situation I know. I think a getaway sound like a great idea. Have a wonderful time!!!

Jackie- Will you start your Stimms today?? Very exciting!!

Marcia- This relaxation therapy sounds awesome!! How great! Sounds like you have your schedule all sorted out. I felt like once I started downregging it has been flying by. I'm sure you will be on your way before you know it!

Sonya- Glad to hear you had a nice night to yourself. I hope you scolded DH for making you worry!! :x Funny story about my DH…in December his office had a holiday party and he had too much to drink so he called me to say he was going to go back to his office and relax for a bit before he drove home…this was around 9PM. I awoke at 3AM and no DH so I was worried sick!! After calling his cell for about 20 minutes he finally picked up and he told me he had fallen asleep in his office on the floor!!! So I tease him about that all the time!

Jill- Congrats on starting Lupron! I totally understand why you would "miss" the injections. With all the waiting we have to do it just feels good to know you are actively doing something to get pg. I hope you have some time to yourself after having a house full of people. Sounds like you were busy!!

Nimble- Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend!! I didn't know we had a super model in the group!!

Nerms- Hey sweetie! I posted to you on Feb thread as well. I haven't checked the board in a few days and all of the sudden I'm pages and pages behind!!! Sorry AF is being a witch but at least that means you can start your d/regging!! Yay!!!!

Anna- Hey Stimm buddy!!! I'm also doing three shots a day. Aren't we lucky? I find that the Follistim shot stings a bit too. Do you inject yours cold? My RE said to make sure it is at room temp before you inject and that seems to help. I've also been icing before and then use a heating pad afterwards. Still stings going in but that helps take the sting away after the needle is removed…just thought I'd share what's worked for me so far. When is your first follie scan? Mine is Wednesday. So excited to see what's going on in there!!

Shantala- Can't wait to hear how your EC goes. Everything crossed for you girl!! :)

Nicky- Good luck with the sniffing!! As with everything I think the waiting and anticipation is the worst part. I was a nervous wreck before I started the shots and now I don't even think about them. After a day or two you will be a pro!

Rae- Can't wait to hear how your appt goes on Wednesday!! Keep us posted!!

Sha- Glad to hear the mood swings are not as bad but hey if you get moody every once in a while don't worry…you have a lot going on!!!! It's to be expected!!

Vicky- How wonderful would that be if you got a natural BFP!! It could always happen so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I didn't ask about combining the shots but if I did I would have to mix and all that fun stuff which may be more work than it's worth?? It hasn't been bad so far and EC is already next week so I just keep reminding myself that. Only one more week to go. I can hardly believe it. I'm excited but also scared!!!! The 2ww is going to drive me mad, I can already feel it!!

To everybody else I hope you are doing well…We have a lot going on in this thread right now and I'm so excited for us to start seeing those BFPs in a few weeks…bring 'em on!!!

Kandice - wow, amazing news!! Congratulations! When will you know whether they're going to do day 3 or blastocyst transfer?

Katt aka Superwoman - your posting made me smile :) Good to hear that it's not all torture! Good luck with your trigger shot and EC!

Shantala, how did it go today?

Steph, that's a great motto - IVF girls really do rule. And I'm glad to hear you're doing so well with stimming!

More personals later, have a great week everyone!

hi ladies

just a quick one for me....

the actual EC was no problem at all....when i came round they told me we had 15 eggs so we were really pleased...however, when the embryologist came through she told us only 5 were mature and one is still undecided...she said she was disappointed and the least to say we are disappointed. she said about 50% usually fertilise so we're looking at maybe 2 or 3 if we're lucky....

i'm quite upset as we expected a lot more and 5 seemed even more of a set back once we were told we had 15! i'm worried we wont have any tomorrow or maybe just one, although at this point i would be happy if just one makes it. i was really hoping we would have enough to freeze some so that the pressure is off slightly if it doesnt work first time. now it looks like we'll have none to freeze which means the pressure is on for this first cycle to work (if we get that far!) as we dont know if we'll be able to do it financially again....

anyway, sorry its a bit negative but its difficult to feel positive at the moment...they are going to call us tomorrow morning about 10am - ish to let us know how many fertilised. i'm praying that we'll have at least one...

thanks everyone for your well wishes!

kandice - well done on your eggs!!!! thats fantastic numbers!!! way to go girlie!!

costs

Post by katt »

Hey, could anybody explain why there is so much worry about the costs? Doesn't the state support ivf-procedures in us? In Estonia they reimburse both procedures and meds, 3 times. The procedures cost some 1500 usd and meds less than 1000.

Shantala- I posted to you on the Feb thread. Sending lots of((HUGS)) and PMA your way. 5 is still a good number to work with. Don't stress honey!!

Katt- In the US it depends on what kind of insurance coverage you have. And some states have mandated coverage but not too many. Our insurance specifically excludes infertility treatment so DH and I pay for everything...meds, doctor appts, procedures...all of it. We are doing a shared risk program which means we get 3 fresh cycles and 3 frozen (but hopefully we get lucky and get pg on the first try!!) If after all that we don't have a baby, we get a 70% refund. The total cost to us will end up being around $25,000 usd. It's unfair but we're willing to do whatever it takes to have a baby.

Back to work!!!

vicky- i didn't do my pio shot yet- re said to do it in the am to give it a chance to breakdown throughout the day and ivf dr said it doesn't matter just as long as it's the same time every day. dh works nights and doesn't get home until 7:45 am most days- and I leave for work at 7am so the days he works I don't see him in the am to get him to do my shot for me. we're going to stick to night and then use a heating pad and I plan for going for a walk on the treadmill to break it down too. I already bought 2 bottles of PIO but after I definitely think I'm going to ask about the vaginal cream. I'm tired of shots.

pep- I had my stims in needles. glad you did ok and glad mom is coming to help! my et is either tomorrow- day 3 or thursday day 5. they said they would call me tomorrow monring and let me know- nothing like last minute huh?

shantala- lots of prayers that the embies hold on! I know how hard it is to wait until tomorrow- having just gone through it myself. my lab was late calling me and I got all worried- what if they don't want to call because it's bad news?! just relax and lots of prayers for you! how are you feeling otherwise? does it feel like someone's pushing up between your legs and someone is pushing on your belly? I had so much pressure.

katt- nope all out of pocket for us. I paid $6500 for a "downpayment" to the ivf dr and $1900 to the hospital because they "rent" the lab and then about $1700 in meds. luckily my dh's costs were almost all covered.
when we first met with the financial counselor it was going to be around 20k, insurance has helped a bit but not much. we had to get a home equity loan to pay for everything- but being an accountant, I know that we can take the interest on the home for our taxes and medical expenses on our taxes too next year, so we'll get most of it back one way.

Shantala: Sorry to hear that there are only 5. I know exactly how you feel. We only got 4 and only 3 made it. But you need to stay positive right now. Your positive vibes will help when you get those lil embies back.

Kandice: 29 WOW that is amazing! Good luck on the ET and tell your dh we are thinking about him and hope he recovers quickly! Happy Anniversary!!!

Pep: So glad to hear that your mom is there to help you! How wonderful! We are all awesome arent we!! Thanks! Men! The just dont think sometimes! I threatened to call his mother next time! She will straighten his butt out!!

Katt: Like the other girls said we are paying 100% out of pocket. $15,000 USD! It is really a hardship on us but hopefully this debt will only be a downpayment on our babies! They only get more expensive from here right!! GOOD LUCK on the trigger shot! You can do it!!

Cookholmes: So are you guys doing the cycle?

Smattison: So cool that we are on the same schedule!!!

Love to all
