Maci,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm finding your comments very useful. We have about 5 weeks to go (if we manage full term) and can't wait to meet the little babies. Any other tips would be appreciated. But I am definitely inspired to get them into a routine as quickly as possible.

Cheers
Rittie

Thanks so much for your reflections! I seem to be reading anything I can get my hands on right now and am feeling quite good about how much I've learned. Hopefully I can put it into practice. :)

Hope to be talking to you again soon~

Thanks again!

Tony, My Dr. told me between 120-160 at 7 weeks. Ours were 147 and 134. . . I think. I was pretty worried about the low one at first but they said that's still normal. So I guess I'll not worry over anything until I should be worried. Good luck!

Welcome Tony,

Your hb's sound just fine! Mine are usually around the 140 mark unless they have been wiggling about a lot, then they shoot up to 171! I have one really active one (twin1 - the presenting twin) whereas twin 2 is quieter and gentler. It makes me think that I am having one of each as they are so different!

Does everyone else know what sex they are having? we are waiting for a suprise which is difficult at times!!!

We should do a list of everyone's due dates so we can keep a track. I'm due 9th July.

Hi Rittie,

I am glad my ramblings are of some use. Not long to go for you now. I'm trying to think of any other tips. I might just write them down as they come to me so forgive the dodgy sentence structure........

If you can be bothered at this stage or rope in some help, try and do some bulk cooking of meals that you can freeze. I had a real burst of energy at one point around 33/34 wks and ended up with enough meals for us both for 8 weeks!! My Mum-in-law made soup to freeze too. This proved to be really helpful after the birth. My DH & I were able to eat together every night with minimum effort, ok it was a bit repetitive but who cares for a while. I put stick-it notes on the main cupboards & drawers labelled with "plates" "cups" "spoons" "ironing board" etc so that when people visited they knew where to find things. I bought in paper plates and polystyrene cups for visitors (you've enough to do without extra unnecessary washing up). I left written instructions on how to use the washing machine, programme choices, softner drawer etc as there is nothing worse than being woken from a nap by a well-meaning helper to be asked "I was going to put the washing on for you but don't know how to work the machine!!!!". Keep a note pad handy for writing things down as they come to you because you'll find that you have the memory of a gnat post-natally! Before my DH went to work in the morning he made me up a sandwich and wrapped in cling film for the fridge - it's amazing how time consuming making a sandwich can be in a busy day on your own with 2 new-borns. I kept a note at the back of my notebook of each present as it was given as I found it hard to keep track otherwise and wanted to write my thank you cards. I put notes on the front door e.g. "feeding in progress, knock and then stick your head round the door." I used to go mad when the doorbell would keep ringing and I had both babies latched-on for a feed - the notes worked well - I even had the postman in my living room one morning whilst I was feeding to get my signature for a parcel! Keep some small change handy so that you can pay people who visit and have popped in for bread/milk etc for you on their way to see you - nothing I hated more than having no cash to pay for the stuff or only £10 note. I can't think of much else at the moment. Infact now I've read it back I sound like a bit of a nutcase don't you think.

Another thing if you are able is to take the time with your DH to have a weekend away and/or some meals out before too long as it may be your last chance for a while - you might not find too many people willing to babysit for 2 babies.

I tried to be as organised as I could beforehand but at the end of the day until you are in the position of looking after your 2 darlings there is only so much you can do. It is a scary prospect and the early weeks are tough going but if you take it as it comes and take any offer of help you will have a great journey. One thing I found hard was to have a nap when the babies were napping. This is something my health visitor and midwife were always saying. What a joke actually! Who does all the cleaning up and everything else if you sleep like that - ok if you have someone to do the washing, tidying, sorting the babies stuff etc while you catch 40 winks but that doesn't happen often, well not from my experience.

Anyway, just enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, nest away to your hearts content, lunch with friends and spoil yourself whilst you're still near the top of the family pecking order!

All the best, good luck and hope I haven't bored everyone to tears. I'm just happy to be sharing my experiences and if even a little bit is help than that's great.

Maci~

LOVED your helpful tips! The note on the door I may need before they are born! :D

Not to get personal, but how did you do on weight and did you bounce back quickly? I'm a pretty small person and am a little worried about it since I have nowhere to go but out! I'm not due until Oct. 11 but want to be careful from the start!

Sounds like everything is going great for everyone!!! Take care!

I would forget about being careful with your weight, and concentrate on being healthy with your pregnancy instead. Your babies will take what they need, so work on healthy choices, so you get enough for them and for you. I'm 20 less than my pregnancy start weight, I had extra from the fertility meds, so it doesn't take long to come off, honestly.

I'm not worried about my weight for just vanity reasons. I want to feel the very best I can after they are born to able to keep up with the demands of two infants. Also, what I read indicates that the healthier you stay the easier breast feeding will be and I am really hopeful to be able to do that as long as I can. Lastly, keeping yourself in better shape not only makes it easier on you all around but it can help to keep the baby blues away afterwards. It is a concern for me but of course NOTHING can compare to wanting healthy babies. They are my number one priority.

Glad to hear things are pretty good at your house Tony! That living on your own for 7 years will be very helpful!!! :D I'm sure the wifey appreciates that! She sounds like she is doing relatively great. My Dr. did say that light bleeding and cramping were more common with twins but I haven't had either yet! I hope our journeys continue so smoothly. We get do our 9 week u/s tomorrow. We're just hoping to see some very healthy hb's!

Talk to you soon! Take care!

Hi all,

I had my 8 week scan today and yes I too have double trouble. My jaw nearly hit the floor when she said "and theres the other one". Both healthy heartbeats, although they didn't tell us the rate but they said they are both perfect. They signed us off on to a midwife now and we see her next Monday. They were really cute, one was lying back chilling out and the other was up.

I barely have any symptoms. I get some morning sickness in the afternoon but not horrendous and I've had some headaches. No sore boobs or anything like that.
