I'm just wondering how many of you are avoiding deli meat. I had two sub sandwiches before I knew about Listeria and then I haven't had anything since. I am wondering if I grill a sandwich would that take care of the meat enough? My sister is pregnant with her 3rd and eats a ham and cheese sandwich everyday. I just feel like I can't be too careful where it is so important to us. What do you girls do? Thanks!
i'm too am prego with my 3rd child and eat deli meat once a week, or so... i've never had a problem... but i did start buying the packaged deli meat, it just seemed better... maybe because it does not look like it's been sitting out all day. i know that the deli is safe and refridgerated and all... but it's sitting there, not wrapped up or in a container.. it's weird the way i look at things... i just blame the hormones
I was told not to eat the meats less cooked like roast beef and smoked turkeys. If it's fully cooked, not smoked, it shouldn't be a harm. Also, if you make sure it stays cold until you eat it. I've also heard people say to avoid it all together. Who knows?? All the advice gets so confusing sometimes!

I have avoid all deli meats. I don't want to take any chances. I do have grilled ham and cheeses and hot roast beef sandwiches, but I cook the deli meat before putting it on the sandwiches. Everyone thinks I'm nuts, but I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I ended up with listeriosis and hurt my little girl. I seem to be the minority, so I think you should just ask your doctor and see what he/she thinks.

Thanks for the advice. Jennifer, I feel the same way. I think I'll stick to grilling it too. I just don't want to take any chances. Do you just grill it until it's hot? Thanks for all your replys!
