Use of follistim pen

Post by sharon2007 »

hi
i am about to use follistim pen and catridge 600iu . I have to take 300 iu each day.so one catridge should last for 2 days .BUt the leaflet says that the catridge has some extra fill in it . Is it a good idea to use the extra fill or should a new catridge be used .
anybody who has done this?

I hear that yes, you can do this. My nurse said there are about 75 iu extra in each cartridge (600iu) but since insurance covered mine she advised me to just start new cartridge. If it was out of pocket she said to just use the 75 from there and then start the new one and use 225 from that one.

I just started the Follistim pen on Friday. We were told to take advantage of the overfill...that's expensive stuff!! My RE said the same thing...use whatever is left and and then do the remainder from the second cartridge. It means you will need to do an extra shot but since we are paying out of pocket we are using every last drop. Good luck!!

Sharon: I would definatley try to get all that I can from the pens. They told me that the pen would not pull out if there is not enough in the oen.

Def. use the over fill!! I collected it from all my vials via a syringe and put it in an empty vial to make up a full dose. Get every drop that you can....it's GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I have about 4 little vials with the extra in it because I was paranoid about not starting a new pen and dr.'s office never mentioned the overfill. I hate to be wasteful so I just kept them.
