kholtan,

hope your scan went well.

R.e. weight gain during PG - I gained quite a bit but you'd expect to with 2 babies, 2 placentas and 2 lots of amniotic fluid. I think you are right to keep the motto "eat sensibly" as your foremost thoughts. In hindsight I was healthy through PG but then it all fell apart a bit initially post birth. However, with running around after 2 you'll soon start to lose it again.

With regard to a healthy diet making breastfeeding easier, other than a healthy diet being best overall for healthy body-healthy mind, I am not certain as to any direct correlation with breastfeeding. My experience of breastfeeding twins for 8 months would be that birth factors, baby factors, early attachment to the breast, early support from breastfeeding experts are all far more indicative of success oh and of course sheer determination to suceed even what at first it can seem a bit of a struggle.

Hope this helps!

We finally graduated today to our OB!!!!!! :D :D :D

We are 8weeks 6 days and they both measure a perfect 22mm with HB's of 170 & 173. One of the little ones was moving around a ton while it's twin slept quietly. We saw arms, legs, heads, HB's and it was PRICELESSS!!!!!!!!! The clinic sent us on our way with a big card signed by the entire staff and lots of u/s photos. We even invited DH's mother since she has never seen an u/s! EVER!!! She has 8 grandchildren and no one has ever let her go with them so we really wanted her to see it. She called me later today to say how much it meant to her. Almost made me cry!
Also, if you push gently on your abdominal wall at this stage, the babies squirm around and move. The Dr. was showing us how to gently feel them. It was great to see it on the u/s because you can see your fingers touching the babies outer walls. So amazing!!!!

It's still so hard to believe and to think we are all having two!!! Somewhere, someway I feel like any good dead I ever did has just come back to me.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening. It's 8:30 and I'm sure it's my bedtime about an hour ago! :?

Hi Everyone,

Was just checking up on the news. Congrats and welcome Lisa....the Twin club is a special one indeed. Did you have 2 embryo's put back?

About the weight gain thing, I have put on about 8 kilograms (?17.5 pounds???) at 23 weeks. My face and arms are still the same, but my belly is straight out in front. My friends all say that I look good but in the back of my head I worry that its too much. My doc doesn't seem concerned. I have had terrible morning sickness so I haven't been eating that much...as much as I can stomach, I guess. My books say that you are "allowed" to gain up to 25kG in total (? 55 pounds). Does that fit with what you've all read?

Glad everyone is doing so well.

My Dr. told me 35-45 lbs but I know women who had singleton babies and gained more than that and they are just fine. Since we will all be pretty big in the summer months over here I just want to be as comfortable as I can and truly, I hope to control my weight and eat healthy as I can. I figure if I am eating well and still gaining a lot of weight then that's just what the babies need. Some of my girlfriends that let themselves get out of control are really sorry now and they are really depressed about their bodies after 7 months and more. I don't want that for sure. They said it has effected their relationships and desire to go anywhere or do anything.
I know I'm only in control to a certain degree but my goal is just to stay as healthy as I can no matter what the size.

It's kind of a grim looking day here but I better head off to work. Just wanted to pay a visit to all the mommies!

Kimberly,

I am the same as you, I don't want to gain loads of excess. I have been eating so healthily since about November. I use to have a sweet tooth but not much anymore. My DH can't believe I have finally gone off chocolate. It's too sickly for me.

I am still in shock over the twins issue. So delighted though. Really pleased for the babies too that they have each other in there and will have their own buddy out here too.

Luckily I have experience with twins as one of my sisters has identical twins and they were brilliant. They slept great, ate well, they looked after each other. They didn't seem to winge as much as some of my other nephews and nieces but I think they didn't feel the need to demand attention as much because they had each other.

All our family and friends are so excited for us. I can't believe how many emails and calls I had when I announced it after the scan. I was so overwelmed by it all.

I truly feel blessed as I am sure you all do.

Love Lisa XXX

Lisa~ Our families seem to be responding the same. Everyone is SOOOOO excited to get two! Everyone keeps talking about them like they are almost here. It's just so much fun to see the families so jazzed over babies. No one ever did such a happy dance for Dh or me! :? :D

The idea that two people will grow up sharing their life story together makes me grin so big. That's someone right along side you to remember all the little things you might forget. It's such a blessing to have an instant sibling and friend. We really feel so gifted by these two tiny people.

It's also so much fun to have other mothers to share this with that understand. I'm sure we're all going to be a little frazzled at first when they arrive. Just looking forward to a great journey with you all!

Ok ladies. . .I just have to rant a moment and I'm sorry if this comes across wrong!

On the IVF thread there is a topic called "Twins." There is someone on there thet has stated she would probably reduce twins to only one if she was PG w/ twins. Her opinion is her own and I respect that. However, after I tried to express to her why many of us would be offended, she totally replied with some sarcastic and rude message.
I felt like I was trying to ease her defenses and all I got was a nasty reply.

Perhaps, since we are all awaiting twins, we are more inclined to want others to understand it's more exciting than scary for the most part. Also, maybe some of you thought about it, and I do believe it is your right, but I just can't imagine reducing to one or why? Twins are more and more common and though we are considered high risk, rarely have I heard of bad twin deliveries or pregnancies. They are just safer in this day and age and I don't undertsand why you would reduce a twin???

Maybe I'm overly touchy about it but the woman really ruffled my feathers and was very rude. I just haven't read anyone's message on this entire web page that was that way and I'm so use to meeting such sweet women. This one threw me off guard.

If you read it, please feel free to tell me if I was being rude or out of line. It wasn't my intent.

Have a great weekend ladies and thanks for letting me vent. :D

Hi there

I did have a look at the twins topic. I was amazed at that ladies reaction - so rude and defensive. You are right to rant :)

See my post after your comment on that thread.

We are having twins too and I would never do a reduction yet I respect others choice to do so - everyone has their own reasons for having to consider it i.e. medical reasons. I don't think is was an attack on her train of thought but I think it was how she handled it that fired it all up.

I think I will go and have a cup of tea and relax....

We are 21 wks and 3 days.

Funny, because when I read her post, I felt the same way that you did. Regardless of my personal feelings, it was an inappropriate post considering how many women have gone through IVF and have not succeeded and use this forum for support. My first reaction was to blast her, then I realized it wasn't worth the time or effort. I would never waste my time responding to negativity.

Congratulations on your news. I am also expecting twins in early November. I am cautiously optimistic - it is still so early. PLEASE do not give her a second thought. Focus on your babies and having a healthy, stress-free pregnancy.

Have a great day, :D

Congratulations ladies! I love that we keep getting more and more women expecting twins. I was pretty nervous at my last u/s because I don't have any symptoms other than being a little tired. DH wasn't worried at all but it was such a weight lifted when we saw the hb's.

DI~ I love that you are right ahead of me! The books are great but real life information is so great to get. How is it so far? Can you feel them move yet? Also, did you find out what you are having? Hope you are feeling great!

Deb~ We are really close! Only a few weeks apart. How are you feeling?
A symptom or two would ease my mind some days but if I get all the way thhrough my 12 weeks w/o m/s I guess I'll feel lucky at the end. Hope it's going well for you.

The rant~ I just felt so attacked. It's so out of place o here. When I was worried about being rude myself, I looked up all her comments off her profile and I honestly think she is just going through a tough time and a lot of her posts are very negative and quite sad. It's sad to think she felt so attacked but I don't think any of us here are use to that kind of attitude on here. You are both right though and I am just going to let it go!

Have a great, relaxing Sunday afternoon!!!

Yes, I think the best thing is NOT to reply to her posts. If she changes her attitude maybe she would make some friends. My husband told me not to bother to respond to her posts but I thought she should know that her attitude is bad and offensive - I was think you can't change what you don't know.

Babies are moving around alot and they both seem to like to be cheek to cheek:) They were 11oz at 19 weeks 4 days.

I have scans monthly so get to see them often. I was like most people expecting twins - very cautious! I will be much more relaxed once we get to the 28th week stage and the viability of the twins is high. In fact I have been on these boards for a few years and pretty much stopped once I knew we were having twins as the stress was so high and my expectations so great I was so worried of loosing them as we had a miscarriage before.

Good luck to everyone.

Cheers Di

Hi KHoltan...

Thanks for responding back. I feel the same way you do!!! Aside from feeling exhausted and an occasional cramp, I would never know that I was preg. I have to keep peeking at the sono picture of my two little sacs, with a dot in each sac. My 2nd u/s is this Tuesday and I just pray that everything is progressing the way it should. My backside is so sore from the progesterone shots. They took me off the progesterone and oil and switched me to progesterone and ethyl. I am not nearly as sore as I was, but enough that it is uncomfortable to sit for too long and lay in certain positions. I wonder when the shots will end.

Have a relaxing night and a great week...Deb

Diane~ Did your twins always measure the same? Mine at 7 weeks were 4 days apart on size and 14 beats apart. Now at 9 weeks they are both 22mm and 170&173 hb's. So one really caught up to the other.

Seems we all end up waiting for each mile stone. My next one is 12 weeks. At your 28th week I'm sure you will have a huge sigh of relief!! My Dr. keeps telling me that I will regain my energy after the 12 weeks as well. DH can't wait for that!! I have lacked motivation for what I normally love. . .cleaning! Typically, a day of cleaning is like therapy for me and lately it's gone to the dogs. I keep things tidy and put away but haven't wiped out the fridge in weeks or dusted window treatments. Maybe that's getting ready for twins! :D

Take care!
