Hi there My daughter is about to start IVF treatment and after consultation she has been advised to be sterilized before the procedure starts due to the fact that her tubes are damaged As you can imagine she is upset about this as once sterilized it cannot be reversed so any little chance of getting pregnant naturally has gone. The doctor explained this would help the treatment to work better. I feel psycologicaly this may affect her. Has anyone out there heard of this procedure

DeniseS: Now, as i have no tubal issues, i am not one to give you good details. I know there are lots of women on this board who have been through exactly what you describe. but my understanding is that this is quite a common procedure depending on the tubal issues.
Hydrosalphinx is a blocked, dilated and fluid-filled tube. I am wondering if that is what your daughter has. My understanding is that in these cases, often the tubes will be removed as leaving them in place while doing ivf has been shown to decrease success rates (? i have heard that the fluid from the tubes may decrease implantation rates).
Now again, there are women here that could give you much better info on this. you might consider posting a thread on the general forum asking about tube removal. You may get a better response.
Good luck to your daughter!
