Hi girls,
I have a question for you all.
I'm breastfeeding but want my wee one to take a bottle as well to give me a break as I'm completely knackered having a 3 year old as well!
Ollie is almost 13 weeks old now and is refusing to take any more than 70 mls in a bottle - even that is a struggle. DH tries him with the bottle at night, but we have tried it at different times in the day. I'm not in sight (or smell zone!) Has anyone got any tips for me? I've tried many brands and different teats but to no effect The wee monkey just wants me...
I'm going to try him on a cup, but am getting worried that I have no back up to me (!) and want to convenience of a bottle when I need it.

Does he still want you after taking 70mls on the bottle? I asked my midwife about the amount of breast milk they take (from the bottle) and she said we can't compare it with the amount of formula milk they woud take. She said the milk is completely different and it's a case of quality not quantity.
I know Ellie is a little smaller than Ollie but she is 13 weeks on Monday (and a whopping 5lb 1oz I might add) but the requirement for her is only 51 mls every 4 hours of formula milk.
Have you tried the Tommee Tippee teats? When we put Ellie onto formula milk we struggled to start with and after elliminating a few this was the only one she would take.
I think you are going to have to keep trying him. Best of luck

I had this problem with Charlotte and I was worried because I was due back at work. My Health Visitor told me to leave the house for the day and leave her and DH to it - apparently she'd start taking it when she was finally hungry - but that didn't work. In the end the only thing that worked was if DH walked round the house with her singing to her - don't know why but it worked. But it took a hugely long time before she'd take a bottle from me. Have you tried Ollie with expressed breast milk as well as formula?
My only advice is to stick at it, I'm afraid.

TTC 5 years. Daniel & Charlotte born 22.03.02, 1st ICSI treatment. TTC for 4 further years. 2nd ICSI cycle abandoned, 3rd cycle BFN. Looking forward to being a happy family of 4.
Hi Jo! Great to hear from you. What a wee porker Ellie is LOL. 
OH Jo, she sounds like she's doing fab - you must be absolutley delighted. Ollie is 13 weeks on Tuesday, so they're practically twins 
As for TT teats - no chance - that's the ones that Sam eventually settled on... Last night he only took 50mls - then fed from me for 15 minutes - kinda defeats the purpose! LOL. I'm almost glad Sam was early when he came as like Ellie, the neo-natal nurses got him into a 4 hour routine and we were strict at keeping him to it. Ollie - well he's a law unto himself and up until a few nights ago, he'd be up every hour 
He knows his mind does our wee Ollie...
Jules - you made me laugh with the singing tale - I'll tell DH
He was given expressed milk up until 8 weeks, but he was feeding so often that I gave that up as I was knackered - mind you - he still took the same amount... He just seems to get bored - the wee monkey. Someone has suggested that Mothercare do bottles for babies with cleft palettes, but they're great for fussy babies...
The breastfeeding clinic have told me that some babies don't take bottles at all and to try a 'Doidy' cup and to miss out bottles altogether...

A friend of mine has exactly the same problem. Her little one took a bottle of expressed right up until 10 weeks and then after that FLATLY refused. She is now 5 months old and still no joy - despite trying different bottles/teats (and leaving her 10 hours once). Our health visitor has suggested trying to get someone other than her or dh to do it - but with both of them completely out of the house. She said to go out for about an hour or so. She hasnt tried this yet but I thought I'd let you know.
Also when I was predominantly b/f Charlie didnt mind the odd bottle at any temp. Now he is on sole bottles (with the odd b/f) he wants it quite warm - If I try and give him a 7oz bottle he has about 3-4 oz and then gets bored and refuses the rest. I now make up one 4oz bottle and then when he gets bored of this I give him a freshly warmed up 3oz bottle. It's the only way I can get him to have a decent amount and seems to be working (but my steriliser is on constantly!!). I know this is a pain but again thought it may be worth a shot???
