IVF about to start

Post by DeniseS »

Hi there My daughter is about to start IVF treatment and after consultation she has been advised to be sterilized before the procedure starts due to the fact that her tubes are damaged As you can imagine she is upset about this as once sterilized it cannot be reversed so any little chance of getting pregnant naturally has gone. The doctor explained this would help the treatment to work better. I feel psycologicaly this may affect her. Has anyone out there heard of this procedure

Hi there,
first i wish your daughter so much luck and a big baby belly to show for her treatment...
I know what you are talking about i was told the same thing i have blocked tubes and the emotional shock being told to snip your only faint chance of defying the odds and one egg sneaking through is awful, i went through so many emotions trying to work out weather to do this or not, and like you say i thought if i do that and IVf doesnt work i will know 100% i will never have children.....

i am now at the other end of my treatment not pregnant and still have tubes conected .....my advice is to not to think about it like that at all if your daughter is being advised to do this i can tell you it's for a very good reason.....the way it was explained to me (after the fact) is....

a fertile will normaly produce the hormones we take during a cycle the tubes contain small hairs that at a certain point produce fluid this helps the egg pass along the tube...the problem is when you have blocked tubes this fluid that normaly helps actualy gets trapped and collects (a hydro) the thinking is once you get your embryos transfered back that them implanting can cause the tube to release this fluid that has not only been sitting in the blocked tube but as it passes into the womb it takes along with it any infection present in the tube and that this can kill the embies....

i chose not to have my tubes cut and now will always regret this choice, if by some mirical i get the chance to cycle again i will get my tubes sniped before doing it 100%....i also know some lady's who did have it done and are now pregnant...i hope your daughter finds some comfort and that she trys to see past the tubes ....once she is pregnant who cares if she has tubes right!!!!.

loads of luck i hoped this helped a little
