Kandice,
Just my opinion, but I say stay clear of the evil HPT! It just make you worry weather it is positive or negative. Wait for the real thing. I promise it will be better on you to wait.

I took an HPT 8dp3dt (11 dp egg retrieval) and it was negative. The next day (9dp3dt, 12 dp ER) the HPT was positive. That was the same day as my first blood beta (although my clinic's rules are that they don't disclose the result until after your second beta). Anyway, I eventually found out that my blood beta that day was about 50. I was testing on a First Response Early Result (which should have detected down to 25). But I found it awfully hard to read even at 12dpER - it was very, very faint. So, just beware that if you do choose to test early, you may get false negatives so be mentally prepared.
I highly highly recommend not doing those evil things...I took like 6 of them and they were all negative...In fact, the day I got blood work I took one and it was negative. I cried and stopped taking my meds cause I "knew". Well I was very wrong....My first beta was 110...I did a lot of crying for no reason and my husband said all along you are pregnant and do not take those. Well, I didnt listen...
Good luck but really they did not work for me

I took a HPT 2 days before my first blood test. Just cause I had one left over from one they had me take at home before I started taking Provera.
I thought, "What the hell.."
The result was iffy. I could see the second pink line [which would make it a + sign] but it was very faded... so it was just torture! I say don't do it. Because what if you get a positive and you're not? Or a negative and you are!
Hang in there. I know it's tough... but you'll save yourself a lot of mixed and negative emotions if you don't do it. =)
HPTs are evil! I say don't take one--wait for your beta. Then, if it's positive, take all the hpts you want (because it is kind of fun to finally see a positive on a home test--I mean, haven't we all seen enough negatives on those damn things!!!!)
