After Retrevial, how did you feel?

Post by ldonvito »

Hi ladies,

I had my second retrevial last Tuesday and what kills me is how much the doctors, nurses and clinic in general down play how bad you feel. I was having strong cramping the first day. Day 2 and 3 I swelled up and my tummy was hard as a rock and painful. I couldn't walk very fast because my mid section was so sore and I found it hard to get up and sit down.

I'm curious how other felt?

My transfer is tomorrow, 5th day!

I felt the same way you did. I had cramps so bad I felt like I couldn't breathe. I had a mild-moderate case of OHSS from all the eggs. I can't imagine have a severe case of OHSS. I would have been heading to the hospital right away. Anyhow I got to see what I will look like 5 months pregant because I swear that is how big my stomach looked.

Good luck with your transfer! You at the easy and painless part now!!!

I played it down a lot but I had the same symptons, even the process of sitting down was painful for a few days. It also took me ages to get back to normal. I'm waiting for 2nd cycle to start (Tuesday!!) and that bit is something I'm not looking forward to.

I didn't experience much cramping but I was so stiff and just couldn't move to save my life. We had 49 eggs at retrieval time and a mild case of overstimulation that just went away last week!!! I felt like I was lifting a keg of beer on my abdoman at all times. Soooooo glad it's finally over!!!

I am so sorry to hear it was so painful. For some reason mine was not very painful, it was similar to a pap for me even though i had a minor surgery to aspirate my endometriosis during the same time. I had 17 eggs retrieved. I go to Wake Forest in Winston Salem and the docter seems to be really proficient.

I'm so glad this topic has been brought up. The after effects of retrieval are so incredibly downplayed. I wish that I had known just how much I would have to go through, if nothing else but to prepare mentally for it. Like you all, some major pain. I have hyperstimulation bad. How long has it lasted for all of you? It has lasted one month and counting for me and even though it's gotten a ton better, I still can't fit into my regular pants at all. 3 more inches on my waist to go until I'm "normal" again.

I had my second retrieval on the 20th; I wasn't particularly sore after either, but after my second, I was a bit crampy, and the doc said it could get worse. She actually gave me a Rx for 30 Tylenol 3's.....which tells me that the pain must be quite severe and prolonged for some women.

I am sorry to hear that so many of you had so much pain afterward. My pain was not that bad. I was sore and crampy but feel a 100% the next day. I guess all of our bodies react differently to all of this.

Those of you still in pain I hope you feel better soon!!
