I'm going through my first IVF/ICSI in early May and my RE only wants to transfer a single embryo! I've been researching and finding out that single embryo transfer (SET) is the "new thing" to do now to avoid multiple pregnancies. I was wondering if anyone out there has had success with SET. I'm also a bit disappointed, b/c I was hoping for two b/c we wouldn't mind twins. I just feel like this might fail and I just need some encouragement!
Also, I'm going to be starting acupuncture... but when should I begin the treatment (during the birth control or the lupron)?
I'm sure every clinic is different but at my clinic you had a limited choice of how many to transfer. We chose 3 all together but he transferred two high grade embies and one mid range to lessen our odds of triplets. We ended up being PG with twins. You may want to ask if in the end it's your decision and go from there. Either way, the best of luck to you and I hope you get a BFP!!!!!
Good luck!!!

Because of my high risk for hyperstimulation, my doctor only wanted to insert one embryo. We too were a bit disappointed because we wouldn't mind twins. But one embryo was enough b/c I found out a week ago that I'm pregnant! So, one can definitely work! So much luck to you!!!
At my clinic, the doctor makes an assessment about how many embryos you should transfer based on your age, embryo quality and specific circumstances. When I went through my first IVF in 2002 they recommended 1 or 2 embryos be transferred. We opted for 2 and both took, but we lost one at 8 weeks.
I would ask your doctor if they are recommending one just b/c it's the new fad or if it is based on your individual condition. Most of my family is very fertile and twins are common, so I know first hand that twins are very risky. They are often under developed and have way more health problems than a singleton, so for the sake of the baby, a single is way better. If your doctor thinks that you have a good chance of one working, I'd go for it. Good luck! (P.S- my first IVF worked, after many failed IUI's so hopefully you'll have that same experience!)
