Hi.
On the Pensinsula, my best friend is gong through Stanford's REI program.
She's 14weeks preggers w/ twins and says they are very suppportive and very professional.
I live in the Eastbay and I'm going through the IVF Program at Alta Bates;
the IVF clinic is across the street from the hospital...more private.
The Dr. was named one of America's Best Doctors in 2005.
My pregnancy test is Wednesday.
I live in SF and I was going to Pacific Fertility Center. I saw Dr. Chenette mostly. I thought they were great, but I had to have a quick hysteroscopy and they wouldn't do it, so I found a doctor at UCSF that did an excellent job and I decided to stick with her. They are closer, have MUCH higher statistics, and I love the doctor (Dr. Huddleston).
If you want to talk about anything else - I'm here. I have unexplained infertility at 30.
wannabeone, thanks for the info! Last year I went to Pacific and thought they were very professional, but needed a laparoscopy. So I had to change the clinic and go to a doctor who frequently does surgeries.
BTW, do you know of any insurance plans that cover IVF in California, at least partially? I am interested in individual plans (i.e. not through employers).
I looked into that exact question earlier this year - Individual Plans do not cover IVF - end of story. It's too $$$ for them to cover whereas a company can spread the cost. Some other states like MA do have coverage, but we don't. To make it beneficial to the insurance co. they'd have to charge us thousands of dollars. That being said - there are shared risk programs that each clinic seems to use. There is one called ARC financial that you can look up. It's basically gambling up front. You can pay a discounted rate for 1, 2, or 3 cycles, but you don't get your $ back if you get pregnant. If you don't get pregnant, you do get a % back.
Which clinic are you thinking? Are you just starting IUIs or IVF?
I have just started researching different clinincs around here. I am looking at FPNC in San Jose. I am 30 too... Severe endometriosis (lap surgery last year).
Have you done gonadotropin induced cycles? I am thinking of doing this, prior to IVF.
I did not do gonadotropins prior to IVF. I did three Femara/IUI cycles. I know that the gonads. work for some people, but I really just feel like it's just enhanced sex - I felt like I didn't want to waste any more $ on them. Do you want to call - I'm around tonight - 415.336.7156. I feel pretty strongly about IVF being a better choice - especially with endometeriosis. Did the lap. remove most of it? Have you always known you've had it - with symptoms and such? Or did they just find it after the surgery? I am clearly not a doctor, but I feel like I've done so much research at this point, so I have some sense that if you are open to doing IVF eventually, that maybe you'd want to skip the IUI step.
I look forward to talking. I was thinking after I wrote my # that maybe you would want to keep this online, but I'm glad you're up for a talk. I have many caring friends, but lately I've been keeping them out of the loop b/c if I filled them in, it's all I would talk about. Around 6:45 - 7:30 would be great! Talk to you then.
I went to Pacific Fertility Center in San Francisco. They are supposed to be very good. Their statistics are not as high as others becasue they specialize in extreme cases. So a lot of their patients do not have good odds. I think they also deal with a lot of women with low ovarion reserve. I am only 28, so I do not have that problem. They gave me great odds of it working. We shall see. I have my beta in three days and I'm so anxious.

good luck, carisa. how did you respond during the ivf cycle? i currently have 39 follicles. they are still going to proceed most likely, but boy am i uncomfortable - what was your experience?
My ivf cycle went pretty smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I only had 14 follicles when it came time for retrieval, they only got 13 eggs though. Out of the 13, 9 fertilized, and I only had 2 left in the end. The 2 that were left were excellent five day blastocysts. So those were the 2 that were transferred.
I'm dying right now, my beta is tomorrow and I am not feeling pregnant at all. I'm hoping for a bfp tomorrow, but am a little skeptical.

Are you in the Bay Area? If so, where are you going and do you like it?
