Constipation

Post by daniellewngs »

I am 7 weeks pregnant with twins, no symptoms of really anything, except for MAJOR constipation. I am in desperate need of advice, if anyone is or has gone through the same thing and what worked for you. I take stool softner's, metamucil and I try to increase my bran intake in the morning and nothing seems to work. I am not able to enjoy this pregnancy cause I am in constant pain and fear everytime I have to go to the bathroom. I appreciate any advice sent!

Or go get yourself some decaf coffee. some women can't stomach the smell of coffee when they are pregnant but boy does it work. I don't drink it every day only when need be.

Hi Danielle,

When I was pregnant with my son I had it really bad as well. My girlfriend who was a nurse said if you drink a hot beverage (i.e. Tea/coffee or hot water with lemon) fairly quickly and lay on your left side that should help. It helped me some.

Thanks for all the suggestion's, I will try each and every one. I think this is a combination of iron from my prenatel and the projesterone, I also think I am not drinking enough fluids and I will up that as well. This has been going on for several weeks and rectal bleeding as well, cause this is an every time occurance. Don't mean to be graphic, just looking for help and adive that has worked.

Oh no, danielle, that's terrible! I hope you get feeling better soon.

I've had constipation too and tho' it's nowhere close to what you're feeling, I find that drinking TONS of fluid helps. I drink sports drinks, Smart Water (which my doctor recommended for the electrolytes), V8, whatever I can get my hands on, all day, every day. I would not recommend soda, though. It has made it worse for me.

I have been extremely constipated as well. It is so uncomfortable. I'm trying to drink a lot of fluids and the pregnancy book i have says to eat a lot of fruits and veggies because they are high in fiber. Let me know if you find anything that works ! I'm 7 weeks pregnant now - does anyone know if this symptom goes away at any point during the pregnancy?

If it weren't for constipation, I would hardly know I was PG!!! Sorry to hear of your troubes. I too, am pg with twins and have had this problem. I started making a fruit smoothie in the morning (1 banana, 1 plain yogurt, 1 pkg blueberries, and a little OJ) and boy did this work for me. Nothing else really did it for me but this was a sure fire winner!

Good luck and I hope everything gets better!

Take care~

Try making yourself a whey protein shake with some fruit and flax seed. I had been doing that for breakfacst and by midday, I felt the need to have a serious bowel movement. Also--try some Kashi cereal.

Hi there,

Sorry you're having so much discomfort and are not able to enjoy your pregnancy thet way you want. I too suffered a little from this and found that lots of water helped - but not cold - I used to have glasses (2 litres a day) - part boiled water and then cold added so it was lukewarm. It was something my sister said about adding digestion and cold water didn't do that are well. It worked for me... Good luck - and congratulations!

Augh... yeap. I've been suffering from this too.
I try to drink lots of juice. Orange juice or Prune Juice.
It almost always helps!

Good Luck! =)

Actually, it has not been any better. I take stool softners, drink plenty of juice and water, eat high fiber food all day and it only seems to be getting worse. I can't even talk to my Doctor about it without swelling up in tears (yes, it's that bad). I am stopping my prenatal, I am going to assume this is being caused from the iron...does anyone have any thoughts on that. I have based this on everything I have read and my Doctor said that's fine to stop as long as you take folic acid. I am also thinking the progesterone is playing it's role in this as well, only I can't stop that. I appreciate all the suggestion's very much and I try them all, I am desperate for any and all help.

My RE said today to add 3 tablespooons of ground flax to my diet (like in a shake) and that would help if I end up getting constipated. Also, what helps keep me regular is drinking a cup (6-8 oz is fine) of warm, not hot, water with lemon juice in it. I've been told to sqeeze a lemon. I just use lemon juice from the bottom - maybe a tablespoon or so. You can add more water if it's too tart. I usually drink it to help eliminate phlegm but it helps with regularity also (I usually go right after if I happen to drink it before a BM in the morning). It probably won't cure constipation but can be helpful once you're regular again.

I hope you feel better soon!
