1st IVF and PCOS

Post by Cori »

I just had my IVF consultation and begin my Lupron injections on April 17th. This is my first IVF cycle. I am interested in learning everything that I can about it and what to expect. They also found that my ovaries are polycycstic which is something that I had not learned before this and my tubes are open but sluggish. I have been through 6 IUI's with Clomid with obviously no success. Do any of you have a similar situation. At the IVF clinic, they told me not to worry about the polycystic ovaries because it doesn't change anything. They do not think that I have PCOS just PCO because I don't have any of the charcteristics other that the appearance of the ovaries and my infertility. Does anyone know anything about this. Could someone tell me what to expect with IVF?

Hi,

I've done IVF twice. Before my first I went to the library and checked out a book. It scared the crap out of me, but I knew what to expect. My dr. then gave me my own tenative calendar and reading the book helped me know what his calendar meant. I think doctors may do things a little different, and girls react to, and handle things differently. Girls here are great at answering specific questions, but if you want a start to finish explanation I would get a book, I wish I remeber what mine was called so I could recommend it. Although it was hard, mine wasn't too bad and it is definetly doable. Good luck with your cycle!

Hello,

I was diagnosed with PCOS 8 years ago. I am now 32 and, even if my ovaries still look polycystic, my hormones levels are within normal range. Because I had more than 35 follicules on my baseline ultrasound, they recommended that I do IVM (in vitro maturation) instead of IVF because PCO woman are more at risk of hyperstimulation with IVF because there is so many follicule to start with. However, during my cycle, at some point, I had 50 follicules not developping at all. I had to take some repronex (4 days). At the time of collection, the follicules were around 10 mm with 2 of them at 12. They were able to retreive only 8 eggs in the 22 follicules that were left. 2 of the were mature, the remaining were matured in the lab (this is why it is called in vitro maturation). They fertilized the 2 matured one right away and another one the following day and a fourth one 2 days after collection. They use ICSI for the fertilization. Also, the day of the transfer, they did assisted hatching on the 4 embryos.
Long story short, last Friday, I found out that I was pregnant. I'll find out in 2 weeks how many of them there is.

I wish you all the best and the same luck I got on my first cycle.
