progesterone level?

Post by alyson »

Hi everyone, I am 10 weeks pregnant after icsi. My progesterone level was staying at 20 while my doctor had me injecting 1mil. everyday. For the last two weeks he cut it down to evey other day. I went back in to test the level again today and it came back at 14. The doctor told me to continue the injections every other day, and will re-check next week. Ive been cramping and having some light spotting for about 4 days now. Im so scared im going to lose the baby. Can anyone give me some insight on this.

Thanks so much

Aly,

I can't really say about what your level should be, but I have heard it is common for girls to bleed when they go off their progesterone. It is most common when they stop too quickly. I also know most doctors do end the progesterone around the end of the first trimester. How scary for you. It seems my dr is keeping my level more around 30. You might want to talk to your dr about what's happening and where he wants your level to be. I'm sorry I'm not much help, but I hope all goes well!

I am 9 1/2 weeks and I have stopped my progesterone as of yesterday, my level was 15.7 RN said they wanted it to be at 15 for me to be producing it naturally, so they told me to stop taking it. I am a littel nervous about that myself, so far no spotting some cramping but not too bad. I was on suppositories twice a day and took the last one at 9pm the night before test and it was at 1:30pm next day so it was me producing hormone not supp. I hope this helps some.

I was 9 weeks when my Dr took me off of the progestrone with my last pregnancy. I was concrened & voiced this to my Dr office. They told me that 9 weeks is when the placenta takes over & not to worry about it. Aprox. 2 days later I had an US that showed a baby with no heartbeat. It was about 6 days since my earlier US. My baby had grown alot in those 6 days & I will never know if it was progestrone or not. We had all of the testing done & we used healthy young donors. All we found out is that we had a perfectly healthy girl. I have since moved to a different clinic since my 3 cycles didn't work out at that clinic & felt the need for a change. I am 4 weeks pg ,probably with twins. This Dr says he will keep me on progestrone for 3 months & taper the dose. I hope this helps . I don't want to scare anyone but, I beleive that knowledge is power & the more we know the more we are able to take charge of our heath care. Best Wishes.

I spoke to my nurse this morning, she made me feel a little better. I am not going to be taken off the progeterone until I am at a healthy level. She said that some stay on it until they are in there 13th or 14th week. She explained that with a normal pregnancy ( no reproductive help) if they tested some woman at 10 weeks there levels would be around 14 also. And as for the spotting, its old blood, which I knew. You just start to worry, think, and re-think all of these things. Constantly second guessing everything, it just about makes you mad!! So I am to continue to take my shots every other day, and will continue to be checked.

I am 8 weeks and my RE released me today to my OB. I was told to continue the progesterone until week 10 and then stop. I will also stop my Estradiol in a few days when the prescription runs out. Does anyone know why they choose about the 10 week time frame to end the progesterone, has anyone had an explanation. I did not even think to ask why he chose that date as a stopping point. My levels have all been above 40 in previous tests.

ok I chickened out I talked to ob and he said I should stay on progesterone, so I am until my 12th week I am not taking estrace anymore but I am still on the Crinone supps. I just had rather be safe than sorry. I have just enough so I am not spending any more on meds. I am sure that makes a difference.
I don't know if this helps or not, hopefully it will.

I think the reasoning behind some clinics stopping progesterone at week 10 is that that is when the placenta takes over and starts producing progesterone on it's own.... I think that most clinics (from what i can tell on these boards) will keep people on prog until around week 12. Some clinics will wean you off as opposed to just stopping. There seem to be a lot of variables with the progesterone issue so it is hard to know what is best!

hope this helps.
