BFN BFN Club

Did any March Cycle buddies get a BFN?
I did and I haven't had my follow-up appt. yet.
What is the next step?
I didn't have mature embies, so now FET.
I have to start all over.
My menstral is so painful right now; worse ever.
The Dr. says it's because of everything my body has gone
through and all the hormones... Anyone else having
uncommonly painful menstral cycle?

Karma,

Im sorry you had a BFN!! Yes, after my BFN I always have had a very BAD AF.

Talk to your DR and find out what he/she will do differently next time. It can take a time for them to get to know your body.

Good luck to you and I hope you take some time to get back on your feet.

Take care,
Jackie

Hi Karma k,

I was a March cycler who got a BFN and I now have af which is pretty heavy and clotty. I do have off and on cramps but not more than my normal af's. Anyway, my clinic wants me to call back for a consult to discuss the failed cycle when I'm ready but so far, I'm not back in the saddle yet. I do have 9 frosties and will probably do FET but I just need the courage to do this again. My dh wants me to go ahead after this cycle but I'm not ready. Anyway, good luck with whatever you do....I'm hoping to build enough strenth and courage to go through this roller coaster again. Let me know when you're cycling again!

Annag, I do understand the emotional termoil of all this.
I'm starting to wonder how much more of this I can take with all the injections again :x and if I have another BFN and painful AF like this one...I haven't been able to stand upright for 3 days and the vicodin is wearing thin.
At least you can do the FET when you're feeling better...my bestfriend miscarried the first IVF, but her first FET was successful and now she's 15 weeks w/ twins, so hang in there. Lots of luck to you.

Hey there,
I'm one of the March cycle buddies who also had a BFN and I too had a painful AF. I spoke to the doc on Thursday and I think I will probably try again this next cycle. I'm just a little concerned with how much work I missed so am wondering if I should wait until the summer when I am off. I also am on the fence if I should give my body a little while longer to get back to normal.
Anna my DH feels the same way but they are not the ones who have to subject their body to all of this. My DH was very good through all of it but it is just such an emotional thing. I hope things are getting better for you, I've been thinking of you.

Karma, that is great news about your friend. I'm so sorry about your painful af...I'm sure it will get better soon. Have you gone back to your doctor yet?

Hi Yarnista,
I'm so happy you're getting back on the saddle. My dh was very supportive too during the whole cycle but I told him it wasn't his body going through all this and the emotional torment that we all go through. He keeps asking me everyday when I would do the next one. Anyway Good luck with your next try....I hope 2nd time's the charm for all of us.

I have a question for everyone. When you go back for the consult after the failed cycle, does your doctor discuss what possibly went wrong and why it didn't work? Do they discuss any changes needed for the next try and what they could do to increase the chances. I'm just so scared to go through this again and fail yet again.

What the Dr. said

Post by karma_k »

Ladies,
Yes, I'm curious about what my Doc will say went wrong, esp. since I didn't get any of my embies frozen...that's the most disheartening part of all this for me. I know the Doc told me about possible scar tissue from surgeries being of some concern; so, he'll likely do a laporoscopy.
My DH doesn't really talk much about it. He's been supportive by taking care of me, but not talking much about the failed IVF. I guess he doesn't know what to say, so we're waiting for this follow-up appt. which isn't until the 16th.
At this point, I don't know what he's going to tell me, so I don't know when I'll be able to try again. I want to keep trying at least once or twice more, but I can't let this become my life, you know? It gets too depressing and the AF is horrible for me and my belly was sore and gargantuos during the 2ww. My body just can't keep doing this over and over and over...

Hang in there and thank you for being so supportive. This message board is sort of our saving grace. I think it helps keep our hopes up and helps us support those who need it most.
Thank you again.

Ladies

Sorry to barge in on you all and so sad to see that you have all faced BFNs. You will see from my ticker that I am sadly one of the veterans who just keeps on trying!

I did think that I would have a go at answering Anna's question about what the consultant talks about during a follow up. Guess it will depend on the consultant/clinic but............

Based on what I have experienced they have usually talked about the cycle. What went well/not so well during the cycle - response to drugs, numbers collected, fert rates and then how the embies went on transfer. How many cells they were at? What grade etc etc?

Guess sometimes they have answers/ideas about why it did not work but often they come back to 'its a numbers/probability game'. This can be very frustrating.

They will then of course talk about options. What next? May be changes to the protocol to get a better response to the drugs. Etc Etc. Any surgery or tests that could help.

I found the first time can be overwhelming and that it helped me to have a list of questions and to write down answers. Otherwise it can be a bit of a blur afterwards.

We were always given a good amount of time for questions. Sometimes we have decided next steps at the appointment and so not needed to go back again before starting. Other times we have taken the info away and then had another appointment before we have started again (although this can take up valuable time).

Hope that this is of some help. You don't forget what has happened but it does become a little easier as the days pass. I also found cycle 2 & cycle 3 not so onerous in some ways as at least I knew what happened at each stage so there was less fear of the unknown.

Good Luck with your next steps. you are all brave to have come this far. Don't forget it!!!

Lots of Luck
Carolyn

Thanks so much for your post. That insight really helps and I will be sure to spend time generating a list of questions with my DH prior to the consultation. It does make sense that the next time will actually be easier to deal because we already know what's to come, especially with the changes to my body and the anticipated anxiety of having to take so many meds...I do hope for a different protocol next time; I was on the long protocol and it was loonnnnngg.
