long story short - i had an ectopic pregnancy in february - my tube was saved. i had an hsg test done - and the report shows scarring in my tube - and - in my uterus. my doctor wants to schedule an hysteroscopy to see if she can remove the scarring - if there is too much to remove - she is going to send me to a fertility specialist immediately....
here are my questions...
i am thinking of skipping this next test - why go through another surgery - only to find out that she can't remove all the scarring and i have to see a specialist anyway? and potentially cause more scarring from the surgery?
and... if i do have considerable uterine scarring - how would i ever get pregnant with the help of a specialist - if there is scarring - the egg would never implant... how would a specialist help me? i know that they apply the sperm to the egg - but they don't literally implant it for you... do they?
thanks so much!

I can't really help, but I can share my thoughts....
What if you do have the surgery and she can remove the scarring won't this increase your chances of a successful pregnancy?
If she doesn't do the surgery and you go straight to the infertility specialist, you won't ever know how much scarring there is and whether this would affect implantation if it goes unremoved? God forbid you have a failed IVF attempt would you wonder whether having the surgery would have made the difference?
That being said, you could go straight to the specialist and obviously start a cycle much sooner....
Really I think you need to talk to a specialist about your situation and take their advice as to whether having the surgery would be of benefit before starting IVF or not?
You might want to try posting your question on the general forum, to see if anyone has had any experience?
Good luck to you

IVF number 4 = BFP!!
you are right. i actually am seeing the specialist on april 19th - and have the surgery scheduled with my doctor on april 25th. it kind of fell into place that way - with both being the first available appts for each. so i figure i would go see the specialist - and if he recommends the surgery - it is already scheduled - if he thinks i can do without it - then i guess i can just cancel it.
i am just wondering though - if the specialist would want to do his own tests? meaning - i wonder if he is going to want to do the hysterscopy himself??? i guess that is a question i will has him.
the joys!!!! aaaahhhh!

I also did an HCG test and found out my tubes were blocked and scarred. My OBGYN said she could do the laparoscopy to remove the blocking and scarring but in the end, i would still need an infertility specialist. So she recommended we see the infertility specialist and they do the laparoscopy. And so that's what we did. At our consultation with the specialist, he said he would remove the blocking and scarring. But if the tubes were too damaged, he would recommend removing the tubes and going straight to IVF. We thought that was too severe so we asked him to just remove the blocking and scarring. And hopefully after that, we could get pregnant on our own with fertility meds. We started with Clomid but BFN. Then did several rounds of Gonal F with IUI and still BFN. So we decided to go to IVF in 2007. At the end of 2006, I had another laparoscopy. If my tubes reblocked since the last time I had the procedure, specialist recommended he remove the tube. If you have a blocked tube, tube fills up with liquid that could spill in to uterus and harm embryo during IVF process. So we agreed. I still have my left tube but he removed my right tube. If you do IVF, you don't need your tubes. Embryos get transferred straight to the uterus. And as you can see below, DH and I got our wishes - BFP!!! I hope this helps. Good luck!
