Post by lynn08 »

Hi my name is Makensie (Mak)(35) and hubby and I have just completed testing and are about to start the Ivf....I have a child that is 16 and hubby has no children so we are trying for a sibling....I have PCOS also one fallopian tube and have been trying for 5 years now..(.two blighted ovums and one m/c....) so our luck has not been good..RE says we are perfect for this procedure ... not too sure what that means???.I am looking for any advice for this journey we are about to take...I would like to know an est. amount of actual visits I can assume we will have to the dr. the first go round? What procedure's actually cause you pain? Stuff like that...
Hope someone can help me????

Hi Mak - welcome to the rollercoaster ride! I'm so sorry to hear about your troubled journey and I wish you every success for this cycle.
You are more than welcome to come and join us on the general forum on the April thread - it is full of ladies that are going through their cycle now!
Amount of visits to your clinic varies from clinic to clinic. Are yoy starting on BCP's or are you down regging? Either way they both supress ovualtion and give them a chance to get your cycle where they want it. You are then scanned to check that your ovaries are surpressed, if they are you will then start stimming (self injecting hormones to increase egg production) this is not too bad, and some ladies say ice to numb the area beforehand really helps. From day 4 of stimming I had scans (follicle tracking) and blood work every other day until they were happy with the size and number of follicles (I had 12 days of stimming in total, I think average is between 8 and 12 but I have knon ladies to stim for 18 days) I was then ready for Egg Collection which was done under sedation. I was worried about this process but i didn't feel a thing. Eggs are then left to fertilize for between 2 and 5 days. Embryo transfer is no more uncomfortable than a smear test and takes about 15 minutes. The 2 week wait until the pregnancy test is the worst part of the whole process for me - it is the longest 2 weeks ever!

Sorry for the essay! I hope I have answered some of your questions, but please do come and join us.

Good luck again!

Hi Mak

Please try not to worry about your HSG. It is a little uncomfortable, and you get a pain a bit like a period cramp, but it isn't as bad as you imagine it to be. Has the process been explained? Basically they squirt dye into your tubes to see if it runs freely, once they have put the dye in, they tilt the bed so that the dye can run up and they can see straight away if you are clear of blockages. I felt a little strange down there afterwards and had a little bit of spotting as well as the blue dye coming out!

I hope it goes ok for you. It will all be worth it!
