urgent help needed - positives that fade away

Post by JAYNEW »

Hello

I have never posted before but I am in need of help.

I have had 5 cycles in the last 13 months (4 fresh 1 frozen) and on each occasion I have had either a weakly positive, a weak line on the hpt or, as it was last week, a confirmed pregnancy followed by heavy bleeding with the pregnancy fading away.
Last week was pretty horrendous with my levels dropping down and I never want to go through that again.

we have a follow up appointment with the consultant tomorrow and I am keen to discuss any new ideas with her. Has anyone else experienced this which I guess is repeated miscarriages? Has anyone managed to stop it happening. I have raised nk cells and was on steriods for the last go.

PLease help - I feel I am losing my mind!

urgent help needed - positives that fade away

Hi Jay,

I have only had 1 m/c, and 5 failed cycles, but I have just seen Mr Rai at the recurrent m/c clinic at St Mary's in London, as repeat IVF failure is similar to repeat m/c. I had numerous tests, one of which was for blood clotting. I got very confused but my levels of whatever were 2 and they should have been 6. I think it means my blood is too "thick" which affects implantation. I will be taking heparin next cycle - have you discussed this with your consultant before?

Good luck - sometimes the journey does seem never ending!

Karen
Me 33 DH 34
1 clomid preg m/c @12 weeks

Will be on Heparin next cycle
2 cats, a mad black male called Leo currently on a diet as I am too loving and a sweet female called Tilly

Hello Jay,
You must be feeling awful to have come so close so often its like some kind of torture. I myself have had 4 FETs ( never made a fresh cycle cos I was overstimmed) The first two where negatives and the last two ( this year) were positives but i mc'd at 5.5weeks each time. On the first +ve my hcg was quite low,but not low enough to be counted as dodgy but it wasnt brilliant (ie borderline borderline!!) whereas the last +ve it was much higher ( and we got our hopes up unfortunately)

I nagged the consultant alot after the first mc to have the full range of mc tests ( I think that if you have fertility issues to deal with anyway that its unfair to make us wait for 2/3 mcs to happen just like people who can conceive naturally before offering mc screening) Any way he wouldnt screen me on the first mc but did agree after the second.

So Im waiting now for a full mc screening on the 8th of Jan. I cant remember what tests he said Id be doing ( I thought Id get a detailed follow up letter so i didnt write down what he said and then when the letter came it was quite vague)Ill post up what tests Im offered so we could compare?? I have read mc literature and there does seem to be hope for recurrent mc people so Im not beaten yet
Good luck for 2004
love Annie

Hi Jayne,
What an awful time you've been having!
I've have been on steroids for my last tmt and am now 18wks pg. Was also on IV immunoglobulin for raised NK cells. The other thing is I'm on heparin injections as I have border line antiphospholidids which can cause recurrent m/c and/or repeated tmt failure.
Hope you got on ok with the consultant today.
Di

Hi there,

thanks for all your messages.

I have been tested in the past for chromosomal probs, blood clotting and nk cells. The only thing that has emerged is slightly raied killer cells.

the consultant has told me to it is still most likely to be bad luck. However for my next attempt they want to do embryo screening and IVIG as well as steriods and klixane (? not sure of spelling)- so I have to wait a couple of months for the hospital to bring in the IVIG programme - I am in a funny sort of way relieved by the wait as this last go really took it out of me.

the only other thing is that when dh gave his sperm sample he was suffering from cancer ( the subsequent treatment made him infetile hence our need for ivf) (he is absolutely fine now) and there is a chance that the sperm is damaged in some way and we could be producing defective (is that the right term???) embryos. The screening should establish that - then of course we would have to consider donor sperm which I am not sure how I feel about right now.

anyway i think i feel a bit better after the consultation. It is upsetting that the consultants are not as confident as they were to begin with when we thought we would be straightforward, but I guess where there is still hope we have to keep going.

Happy Christmas everyone and I hope 2004 brings happiness and joy.
