Kimberly - Do you know if they are able to tell the sex of the baby based on the nuchal scan? My friend said they were able to tell she was having a boy when she went for her 12 week u/s. My nuchal scan is scheduled for may 14th, at which point i'll be around 13 weeks.

My sister-in-law emailed us today saying that she went to see a psychic medium ( because my mother-in-law passed away recently). And the psychic told my sister-in-law that he sees triplet girls ! How ironic is that?? I wonder if he's right. All 3 babies have heart beats between 169-188. I heard that hearbeats in this range means it's a girl. Has anyone heard of this or knows if it's a myth?

Rittie - congratulations on your 2 little munchkins !!!

Those of you having twins....could you please tell me what your beta numbers were?

Janine~ Wouldn't it be adorable to see three little girls in a arow? :D
I don't know how your friend got the sex told to her on the nuchal scan bacause you could not tell on mine for sure!! We were there quite a while and we even asked and the answer was they couldn't determine at that time at all. I'm pretty sure 18-20 weeks is the standard for finding out. Wouldn't it be nice to know earlier! Good luck either way and it's always a pleasure to see them. My hb's were mid 170's on one u/s and mid to high 150's on the next so although the wives tale says the higher they are it could be girls I am still left guessing!

I have about a month until we know and I'm already excited!

JesJes~ My beta #'s were something like 62 on day 10 and 261 on day 12 but I can hardly remember now to be honest with you. I did not suspect twins and the HPT I took the day before I went in was a BFN so my beta's weren't too crazy at all. Good luck and maybe we'lll be seeing more of you!

Take care everyone!

Kimberly--Welcome to the new life we lead...not quite the party animals we used to be! Sometimes I feel so pathetic, but it feels soooo good to just sleep! :)

Rittie--Congratulations! You are my hero for making it to 36 weeks! That's my goal. Your little babes sound adorable. Enjoy this special time!

Boomer--3 little girls...wow...that would be something! They'd be so precious together! But, yikes, the teenage years--holy hormones! As for the heartrate thing, I've heard it's a myth, but you never know! Good luck! Oh, and at my nuchal scan they couldn't tell the sex. They couldn't tell until week 20 (but I made them keep it a secret from me!)

JesJes--I can't recall off the top of my head, but my beta numbers were around 400...I can't remember if that was on day 28 or day 31. What are your numbers?

As for me, we had an US on Monday. All's looking good. Baby A is about 2 pounds 9 oz., and Baby B is closer to 3 pounds. Yikes! No wonder I'm getting so big.

Diane--How are you? Haven't heard from you in a while....

Glad all's going well with you! Hugs to your bellies!

Hi Guys,

Boomer, I work in an Xray department and the sonographers I work with are usually able to tell a boy at 12 weeks. Girls are a litlle harder as the don't have any outward bits (obviously) making it hard to say with any certainty. One of the girls scanned me at 14 weeks and could tell what I was having, but I don't want to know so she hasn't said. I think it depends on the skill of your sonographer on the day. Other sono's I work with refuse to say anything about the sex until 18-20 week scan as they are scared of being sued over a wrong diagnosis, which has happened to a colleague of mine (sad but true).

JesJes - my numbers were 380 ish and then up to 800 two days later. My clinic said that the betas are not an indication of how many there are but it seems strange that a lot of us with twins had high numbers. Having said that, I know of people who have had high betas and only had one baby. Best of luck!

Well I had a contraction last night. Just one but geez it was strong! It only lasted 30 seconds and I didn't have any more. Very scary/exciting night. I went to my obs this morning and he said that I needed to take it easy but could expect more. He scanned me to check their hearts and they have both flipped and are head down....they looked like Brown's cows waiting at the gate to be milked! Twin 1 has its head right down in my pelvis and my doc doesn't think it'll move so a natural delivery may be possible.

AAARRRRRGGGHHH!

A very excited/nervous Em signing off.

Hello all

I am guilty of lingering :) Too tired to do anything.

Lauralou - hope things are better for you - have things settled or are they lingering?

Em - I am glad that your mum came to spend some time with you. That must have made the time go fast. Gave you the opportunity to finish your nursery that must make you feel good! It is very exciting doing the nursery :)

Boomer - Hope all goes well with your nuchal scan. I was told the same as Em - it is easier to identify a boy than a girl. I know lots of people who were told sooner than 20 weeks and all were correct. However, I would take it with a grain of salt if told before 14 weeks. I have also heard of people being told on sex at 18 weeks only to be told a few weeks later that it is the opposite sex. I guess most of the time the sex is correct but there is always that chance of it being wrong especially in the early stages and depending on the experience of the sonographer.

Buckeyegal - Great news on your glucose test - this is one thing you won't have to worry about :)

Me - I am feeling a little flat and tired, tired ,tired :( My DH is away and is back late Friday night - must be missing him :) I had a difficult assignment to complete last week as well - god I hate statistics! Maybe I am still recovering from all that brain workout - still the exam to go .....sigh. My exam is scheduled for between the 15th and 26th June so hope I make it! We are expecting a c-section around the end of June - I am cutting it fine I know! I just hope it is more towards the 15th...

We are 27 weeks today - yay! Everything seems fine on my last visit on Friday. I am measuring 34 weeks - no wonder I feel like I am slowing down. My next scan is Tuesday so get to see the little people again.

Belly rubs to all

I have a question that I am hoping all of you twin mommies can help me with. I am 6 weeks with twins & I am taking prenatals with 1 mg (1000 mcg) of folic acid) & my Dr said with twins I need an rx for another mg(1000 mcg) This sounds like too much. How much do all of you take? Thanks

I had my first appt with my OB on Tuesday and she put me on an additional dosage of Folic Acid to be taken with my prenatal vitamin. Remember your body will use what folic acid it needs and dispose of the rest so don't worry about taking too much. Especially if your like me right now and can not think of putting a vegtable up to your mouth! Yuck, and I love veggies! Morning sickness really does a number on your body.

Diane- I'm doing okay, thanks for asking. I saw my regular OB yesterday and everything is about the same. My blood pressure is holding steady at 140/80 but the swelling is getting worse. This may be TMI but my genital area is so swollen! It is kind of scary looking! My legs and ankles are also frightening, as I no longer have ankles. My cervix is still nice and long, and I am not dilated at all, so no problems there.

My doctor said I have to come in every week now to check my blood pressure and check for protein in my urine. We are hoping I can hang in there another month without my bp getting higher or having any additional problems. I would love to make 36 weeks, but would be really happy with 34 at this point.

My baby shower is a week from this Sunday, so hopefully I will still be pregnant!

Em- I am happy that your babies have moved into the correct position! Mine are also both head down. My dr said it's up to me if I want to try for a vaginal delivery or have a c-section. I was all set to have a section, but now I wonder if I should at least try for a regular delivery. What are you thinking of doing?

JesJes- I'm no help with beta numbers because mine were all screwed up. In fact, they told me I had miscarried because my numbers didn't go up. Turns out I was having twins! You really have to wait for your scan to know anything for sure.

I have gotten some really nasty stretch marks on my lower abdomen! They are all below my belly button, so no one but DH should ever have to see them. They really itch! Does anyone else have any stretch marks or am I the only lucky one?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Gals,

Xrayem--good news about the twins being head down--it would be great if they stay that way! Mine are that way right now too...It's interesting how different docs feel about delivering twins vaginally. I wonder if mine will change his mind now that mine are head down too. What did your contraction feel like? I don't think I've had any??? I'm always worried that I've missed signs. I think I'm just paranoid.

Di--Glad to hear you're okay. Sorry you're so tired. Wow--they've already scheduled your section? I have absolutely no idea when mine will come. I think we're letting the twins decide! :)

pixiesmom--I too am on an additional follic acid supplement. I'm not sure if I was put on this because of twins or just because folic acid is so important. I do know that extra folic acid can be helpful with morning sickness.

rebecca79--You sound like I did early on. I'm usually a big veggie fan. However, between weeks 6 and 13, I couldn't even touch a veggie....they made me soooo nauseous. good luck!

LauraLou--I too have been having a lot of swelling. Since I"m a teacher and on my feet much of the day, it's not a big surprise. It is shocking at times, though! Just drink lots and lots of water, put them up when you can, and avoid sodium. I haven't had any stretch marks yet, but I've heard that they'll probably come later on! (My mom never had stretch marks, but then again, she didn't have twins!)

Hope everyone else is doing well! My babes have been a little more quiet lately. I still feel them move, but not as much as they used to. I think they're running out of room. :?

Hugs to your bellies!

Ladies,
Thank you for sharing what you know about finding out the sex of the baby. Sounds like the concensus is I will probably know later rather than sooner !

My first appt. with my perinatologist isn't until 5/14, the same day they do the nuchal scan. I'm a little concerned about this because it will be almost exactly one month between my last ultrasound/appt. with my RE, and my first appt. with the perinatologist. Seems unlikely that they would let me go a whole month without seeing anyone given i'm carrying triplets doesn't it? I never got to see my OB because he said he couldn't manage me with triplets, and my RE never really discussed pregnancy care with me, except to say take my vitamins. So basically, by the time i go on 5/14, I will be 13 weeks pregnant at my first OB appointment with triplets. Should I be concerned or am i going crazy? It's also driving me nuts that i have no way of knowing if all 3 babies are ok in there for a month !

Lara Lou - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that you make it through your baby shower pregnant !!!!

Kimberly - if what they say about the hearbeats are true, then i'm putting my money on one boy and one girl for you ! Can't wait to find out what you're having !
