Hello lwalker25! :D

I'll do my best to answer your questions. At the very beginning, when my clinic took charge of me, I had blood work done so they would check my hormone levels. Same for my husband. They had me come on day 2 or 3 of a cycle. I guess that, especially if your cycle is not regular, they want to know what's going on with your hormones. Is it because you tend to have many cycles without ovulation, or because you have too much of this, too little of that, and so on.

I see two scenarios. If you're really irregular, maybe they'll want to put you on the pill right away so they can control your hormone levels better instead of relying partly on your body to determine the moment your IVF cycle will begin. However, they might simply want to do, like me, a check to know your hormone levels better and adjust your IVF cycle in consequence, maybe without having to control you right away with the pill during April and May.

However, one thing that you should always remember when IVF-cycling, whether you're a veteran or new at this, is "When in doubt, call your clinic!" If you want to know, just call them! I'm sure a nurse will call you back with the answer.

And don't worry sweetie... the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask!

Take care, and lots of baby dust to you! :D

Dear All,
I have been working a lot (training as a crisis clinician - better to be taking care of somebody elses' anguish, rigth?)...will read carefully the dialogue between the "founding mothers" of this thread and the newcomers. It is a great relief to read you all.

My mother sent the presciptions and the meds via express delivery. She begged the person to let the package go withuth the required certified translation of the prescription. My doctor was great, calming me down via email...he is from Brazil.

The package arrived today, open and inspected by US customs - but intact! Hey! I have the Lupron at home and am ready to go...still almost a month from today but considering my perimenopausal odds, any step in the right direction is to be celebrated.

Hope all is well with you, read you later!

Good afternoon!

Sophie- have fun on all your trip! Can't wait to hear all about it! Glad to see AF decided to show up early.

Tans- sorry you are so tired. I hate to be tired. I have to get my sleep or I am very cranky. I don't know how people in the medical profession like you work nights! It seems hard. Are you going to still be working nights when you start your cycle and have ec and et?? Will you take time off?

Literatriz- Glad you got your meds. WOW that is early! I start in a couple of weeks with injections and my meds are scheduled to arrive on Thursday. I tried to get them earlier but the Lupron had to be used within 30 days or something so they told me to wait.

I spoke with the Freedom drug people for a while yesterday. I really like working with them. The lady was very helpful. She looked everything up for me, and we decided to send the oral meds out to a local pharmacy and it might be cheaper. I am going to call today to see if they got the order yet. I am anxious to see how much my insurance will cover. She also got me signed up for the program where you buy 2 cycles of Gonal rff and if we need to do a 3rd cycle it will be free. This is our 2nd cycle and I hope we don't need a 3rd!!

That is all for now. Hope everyone is doing well! We are getting closer girls!!
Jenn

Good Afternoon ladies. Things have been crazy at work this week. I teach, and we have been busy doing State Mandated testing. Poor babies :(
Spoke with my doctor this morning about my bleeding even though I am not to have AF. They think my body is too accustomed to the BC, so they want me to finish my pack and take a break, and have a real AF, and then go back on BC. Sure hope it works as I don't want to delay my IVF. Everything is so "planned".

Tans- I don't know how you do it...working nights. I know we all get our bodies accustomed to what we have to, but I commend all people who work nights. Once you have your baby (PMA), will you still continue to work nights?
Sophie- I am so jealous of you getting to take a trip. I am sure that is just what the doctor has perscribed for all of us. Since I for one know I can' t go anywhere right now, maybe you could share some pictures with us when you return so it feels like we were all there:)
Jenn- That is so cool that you were able to sign up for a buy 2 get one free with your Gonal rff. However, I am so sure you will not need that 3rd cycle. This is the one that will work for you:) Did your insurance cover any of the cost last time?
I applaud all of you women who are brave enough to go through accupuncture. Just thinking of needles sticking out of my head, feet and belly gives me the chills. I am kind of wimpy when it comes to needles. You women are BRAVE

Hrob- what grade? I am a teacher too, but I am taking a year off. Although I am trying to get a job for next year and it is not going so well! We are in south TX. Just moved here.
No, my insurance does not cover the important stuff. It did however cover the Lupron, PIO, vivelle, estrace, and all the oral meds before transfer. Those are small in cost compared to the injectables, but every little bit helps! Then if we do a 3rd, the Gonal will be free...sort of. She said something about averaging the cost of the 2 cycles and that is the amount you get free. It will still take off close to $1000, so I'll take it!

Jenn-
I teach 3rd grade (Reading, English, Social Studies)...this year. I have taught for 8 years now and have taught third, fourth, and fifth grade. I guess change is good.
My husband is a coach, so he moves quite frequently with his job. I try not to get too comfortable teaching anything. We did set a new record though...we have officially lived in our same house for 2 3/4 years. Before that, we had never lived in a house longer than 2 years. Makes it awfully hard to build equity. hahaha
Anyhow, I live in North Texas...lived in South Texas (down by Austin) for a year. THought it was beautiful, but way too liberal for my liking.
Can I ask whereabout in South Texas you live?
I am just impressed that insurance even covered any of your meds. I used to think I had decent insurance until I started going through all this. I am guessing my meds will run around $2500...what are the rest of you guys paying. I've never had anyone to compare this with, so not sure if that is high or low.

Hrob- Hey! I taught third grade for 5 years and loved it! Reading, Math, Soc. St., and Spelling. I taught 4th grade my first year out of school. It was ok. I hated the school.
If your drug total is $2500 consider yourself lucky!! Ours was over 3 thousand this time. It was about that much last time and then we had to order more drugs at the end. I didn't respond well to stimms so I had to do like 14 days instead of the 10 that they ordered meds for. It cost us an extra $1000 almost. Not fun when you think you have already shelled out all your dough! I am hoping that doesn't happen again!

Your insurance might cover certain ones so have them run it through to check if you aren't sure. Like we have to take an antibiotic, a valium, and a motrin, and another oral I forget which one. Anyway- your insurance will cover those so you may want to price it. Oh- we are close to Houston. Oh- and my PIO, and estrogen patches, were covered too. Do you use Freedom Drug Pharmacy? They were great!! They took our insurance info. and told us what we should send out to a local pharmacy(because it would be cheaper) and what to keep with them.

gotta go! Meeting DH after work. Hope everyone else is doing ok. Don't work too hard girls!!!

Ooo- Arizona I just saw your post. Have fun with your Itlalian dinner. What will you serve?
Jenn

Jen

Angela
I hope that you were able to get things around for your party! It sounds really wonderful! I love Italian food....Yum. Well I just love food.

Hrob
My meds are going to cost about the same as yours. I hate paying for it although I did get the antibiotic ocvered and motrin and a few others that are not labled infertility meds. Better than nothing I guess.....Still a lot of money to shell out for drugs. Well I dont know if I will work nights once I have my baby. I havent really decided. It will just have to work itself out. I have a problem with when to sleep and when to eat...my schedule is all messed up right now. It is a hard shift to work. Not long term for sure.

Jenn
No time off for me...I am on probation as I just started this job. I cant do any time off for 6 months from my hire date which would be June. UUGGHH Oh well I hope that I dont have any really bad days.

Well ladies I will be in touch. I have to go home sleep and have another massage and then be back to work tomorrow at 7pm again. Not much time. Fun fun.

Hi everyone,

I’m just feeling down so I thought I’d write. I just found out that my best friend at work accepted another job. She will only be here for two more weeks. She was the only one (other than DH) that knew we were doing IVF. I had to have someone other than DH to talk to. She is 47 and chose not to have children. Even though she couldn’t fully understand, she always made me feel better. Of course I know I will still talk to her but it won’t be the same as walking down a hallway.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

ltaylor- sorry you are down. You can talk to us anytime! I know it isn't the same though. It is nice to have someone other than DH to talk to. Can you still call her if you need to unload?? I know it is hard to find people to talk to that understand, or just know how to say the right thing. Try to enjoy your weekend!
