folic acid question for twins or singleton

Does anyone know how much folic acid I should be taking for twins? I am 6 weeks & have a prenatal with 1 mg(1000 mcg) & my Dr just gave me an rx for another mg(1000 mcg) my fertility specialist says I don't need it & I don't know what to do. I don't want to do anything to hurt my babies. Do they need this much? Thanks,

My OB just put me on an additional supplement of folic acid. They told me that your body absolutely needs folic acid while pregnant with twins. Remember the body uses what folic acid it needs and disposes of the rest. Don't worry about taking too much. My advice is to listen to what your OB says. At least I am.

I'm only pregnant with one and my doc still has me take a prenatal plus an additional folic acid. So, I'd say it's fairly common!

My OB also had me add folic acid with my prenatal and I'm pregnant with twins. It appears to be important with twins. He also had me add an iron supplement.
