FET Advice??

Post by Dexter »

Hi ladies,

Thought I'd drop in again and ask you knowledgable ladies some questions about FET's.... I was over on the Jan/Feb thread and had my first failed IVF attempt in Feb. We got 2 frosties (day 2 frozen, 4 cells).

I decided to proceed this month with our first FET but unfortunately I got the call from the lab to say the first frostie didn't survive so they went ahead and thawed the remaining one. I am on a natural cycle and only had to have daily blood tests to see when I had ovulated (which of course was late and coincided perfectly with the Easter holiday break!! Bugger)
Anyways, after finally ovulating on day 17, they transfered the last of my frosties on Friday but I am a little confused because the RE said we had a low chance of a successful pregnancy as the embryo had only grown 1 cell (making it a 5 cell on the day of transfer) and it had already had a whole 24 hours in the lab to divide but failed to do so - ie it is slow. For some reason they transfered it anyway.

Cut a long story short...Can anyone advise if a similar thing has happened to them? I really don't want to be sitting around for 2 weeks going thru tortue if it's a no-go. Do babies come from slow dividing embryos?

To sum it up....Day 2 frozen at a 4 cell, thawed overnight in the lab and grew one cell, transfered on day 3 as a 5 cell.

Am I hanging onto a thread here?

Hope someone can enlighten me!!

Hi Dexter

I had my embies frozen at day 1 at one cell(pretty much immediately) and when I did my FET they were only two cells and three cells and had been thawed for 24 hours. My hospital didn't say anything about a reduced chance as slow dividing in that time - I don't know what's normal but I guess your hospital are just trying to play it safe.
I was pregnant after my first FET and now have a beautiful baby boy. Good Luck to you for the next two weeks. I decided to consider myself pregnant as son as I left the hospital after transfer - and I was. So try and relax think pregnant thoughts. Vicky

Thanks Susan and Vicky for sharing your experiences with me. I am 8dp 5 cell transfer now and POAS (ultra sensitive 10 mu test) this morn which was neg so I am waiting for AF to arrive now I guess...Beta is not until Friday. I might focus my energies on predicting when AF will arrive ..just to keep me occupied :-) I'm predicting Tuesday!!

Anyway, all is not lost. No frosties left so we'll look at doing another cycle in July but I get the feeling with this IVF stuff that if it's going to happen at all, it usually does the first or second time. We are going to head to another clinic for the next one though. More expensive, but hopefully they will offer some alternatives to the "norm".

So happy to hear about your positive outcomes! Thanks again for getting back to me.
