I am on 12dp3dt and just received a BFP from my blood test and am very excited!!! However, the doctor told me that they are worried that my progesterone was low...I have to go back on Sunday for another test. My HCG was 25, which she said was good, but my progesterone level was 36 and she said that they like to see around 70-80. Everything that I read online says low progesterone means miscarrage?? I hope and pray that is not the case. I have also read that in your first 12 weeks of pregnancy anywhere between 15-40 is average. I am really confused. Can someone shed some light?
Has anyone else had BFP, with a low progesterone level?
Thanks,

Hi. My initial progesterone level after my FET was 30 and my dr said it was perfect. Did you do a fresh cycle or frozen? Frozen's tend to have lower progesterone levels that rise slowly over the next few weeks after your bfp b/c unlike a fresh cycle your body isn't chemically in the right cycle spot to accept an embryo. All the chemicals are artificial and it takes your body a little longer to make up for that.
What type of progesterone supplement are you taking? Supposedly the progesterone in oil shots are the best, but whoa do they hurt. The other thing is, each woman is different. I have a perfectly healthy son from a fresh IVF cycle in 2002 and my progesterone levels were lower than normal throughout my pregancy. He is now a healthy, active 4 year old.
Lastly, recent studies have suggested that low progesterone levels don't cause the miscarriage, it's really the other way around. If your progesterone levels are too low, it's a result of a problem with the embryo. Regardless, I think you should be fine. My clinic says anything over 20 is great. When is your first sonogram? Try to relax ( I know that's hard) b/c stress is not good for you or your baby.
Thank you so much for your replies. I have been driving myself absolutely crazy over this. Your responses have definitely put me more at ease....because that is what I have read on the internet(anything over 15ng/ml was ok.)
I just wasn't sure if it was different because it is ivf and I am giving myself progesterone, so thats why they expect it to be higher???
Torrie....It's great to hear a success story--thank you!! To answer your question, yes...I am injecting 1cc of progesterone in oil every night...and wow...you are right, they hurt like hell. This was my first ivf cycle -- so, it was a fresh cycle. I was able to freeze 4 embie's as well.
I go in tomorrow morning for another blood test to see if the levels have increased...I am crossing my fingers and praying that they have more than doubled...then I will finally be exciting and can celebrate my BFP!!!!
Thanks again!!!!

Hi,
I was pregnant 5 years ago and my progesterone was 17 while I was taking oral progesterone. The doctor said I had a 50% chance of keeping the baby. Everything went great and I had a healthy baby girl. Just have positive thoughts and try not to worry. That is what I did. Congratulations.
