My wife had an ET this past Monday. It was a d5t. The RE told us the embryos (two) were of top quality. She just this morning (2 days after ET) had a blood test and her progesterone was extremely low. All of her previous blood tests have had normal progesterone levels. Anyway, the nurse called and suggested we do the IM immediately. She was previously doing the suppositories.
Anyone else have experience with this? We are both very concerned that it may be too late and that the embryos may have missed the window for implanting. Is that the case, or are we alright? The nurse did not seem too concerned, so maybe we are just reading too into things.
A progesterone shot at this time (day 7 after retrieval) will not affect the implantation window. The likely point of implantation was today or yesterday.
What is at stake at this time is keeping the potential pregnancy.
The IM progesterone works very well, and will restore progesterone levels quickly and surely. Should be fine.
Have some good news to report. We were so concerned about the situation that I called the RE and asked him about it. They originally told us the progesterone level was 0.6. I'm not a doctor, but even I thought that sounded absurdly low...especially since she has been taken the progesterone suppositories twice a day. Anyway, they ran the bloodwork again and it turns out they made a mistake. Her level was actually 40. They were very apologetic about the whole situation.
Needless to say, we are both very happy about things again. However, it's a good lesson for all of us that we need to stay on top of things, do our research and question everything.
