Ok I need some opinions. I am about to start weaning off the Progesterone gel and I need to know if I should expect any side effects from it. Did any of you ladies notice anything different during this period of time? I am really nervous about it.
I stopped at 12 weeks and no sideeffects whatsoever. I was nervous but I had to trust my IVF doctor and nurses. And they were right, the placenta takes over hormone production around 12 weeks.
No side effects for myself either. I stopped the shots at 9 weeks and took just one suppository nightly until 12 weeks. It felt great to be off of everything and start to be more like a normal conception than the IVF routine. It makes you nervous but it's also great to know your body can finally do what you need it to.
Good luck and congrats!

I stopped at 10 weeks, no weaning just cold turkey. I was told the placenta took over about 9 weeks and I am now 12 weeks so my Doctor was correct (not that I was not nervous about stopping). Just had the 12 week nuchal scan and thank god, everything looks great.
I've been weening myself off progesterone for two weeks. I'm now 15 weeks and done with the med.
But, I have noticed that (sorry for TMI) my nipples have returned to their normal color in the last few days. I haven't had much change in the breast area except a darkening and widening of the nipple. All ofthe sudden, both are lighter and one is smaller. I'm actually pretty concerned becaue I can't find any information on this anywhere. I plan on calling my OB tomorrow as I'm getting scared something is going wrong. I can't be sure this is related side effect, but I feel like breast changes are related to hormones.
Good luck to you - I've never heard of anyone (else) having a side effect from stopping - many of us worry but the body seems to take over perfectly. Hopefully mine has as well.

I have been off my progesterone suppositories for about a week and prior to that was weaning off for about two weeks (quite similar to KBarry) I haven't really noticed any side effects except that my boobs seem a bit less sore and I seem a little less bloated overall. As far as the boobs are concerned I have read that the soreness subsides after the first trimester anyway so hopefully it is unrelated to my medication withdrawal...gosh so many things to worry about...
KBarry did you ring your dr about your concerns and if so, what was the outcome if you don't mind me asking????
I have just gone down to one suppository a day from two and I have noticed that my breasts also seem a little smaller and less sore. I am only 6.5 weeks so this probably isn't due to end of the first trimester, I am suspecting it is because of a decrease in the drugs because I'm still feeling queasy. But I am also slightly worried because I liked having the symptoms of sore breasts, makes me feel that everything is still going strong. I have another scan on Friday so I plan to ask the nurses then. I would be intrested to see what your clinic says. I do know that some people's breasts are more sensitive to progesterone than others so not everyone will have the same reaction.
This worry is never ending, its only 4 days since my last scan and already I'm a paranoid mess again!

I called the doctor on Monday - spoke to the nurse and she told me to come in to the office just to calm my nerves.
The doctor said it could be that I was on a high dose of progesterone initially (200mg 3x a day) so maybe it did have an effect on the breast changes. He also said not to worry about it - even if my level is lower now that I stopped, by no means does he think it is low. The placenta should be fully producing the hormone now. The baby's heartbeat was very strong, and my uterus measured perfectly for someone at 15 weeks so he said all is well.
I did convince him to let me go take a progesterone blood test anyway . I should have the results by Thursday.
Oh, and Tams, I stopped having sore breasts at 6-7 weeks also. And my nausea was gone by 8 weeks. Some people start feeling better before the end of the trimester. I got my energy back by week 11.
Good luck to everyone! Thanks for sharing and the concern.
