I was released from my RE at 8 weeks which is when I had my last scan. All was good with one little baby and a strong heart beat. I now have my first appointment lined up at the OB next week and I will be 11 weeks.
I was told that I will not have an ultrasound and that he will check for the heart beat using the Doppler but that if we can't hear it I will just have to wait for my next appt. which won't be until 16 weeks!!! That makes me so nervous.
So my question is, for those of you that have had your OB appointments, when was the earliest you could hear the heartbeat on the Doppler? Is 11 weeks too early??
I heard it at my 12 weeks appt. I was also released to my OB in week 8. I had my first OB appt in week 8, and he couldn't hear the heartbeat yet.
I have a titled (retroverted uterus) so I was told it would take longer to hear the heartbeat for me since the uterus was sitting back in my body closer to the spine. The dr. expected me to hear it btwn 12-14 weeks with that condition, so if you have a normal uterus, you'll probably hear it at week 11.
Another factor that can affect it is your weight. I've heard that if you are on the heavy side, you may not be able to hear it as early.
It's a big shock going from the constant care of the fertility dr to a regular OB. My doctor only does u/s in week 20 & 28. I managed to get one in week 12 becuase I had a Nuchal Translucency test done - amazing to see how much the little changed from the scan in week 8 to week 12.
Steph, I had to go to ER at 10 weeks for spot bleeding and they were able to hear my babies HB on the doppler at 10 weeks, but she did say that sometimes they couldn't, I guess I just got lucky. Maybe you could ask if they don't hear it for a quick US. You won't know unless you ask
They heard mine at 8 or nine weeks. I can't remember but, the pregnancy ended at 9 & it was before that. It really depends on your abdominal body fat & babys position etc.
