Sex before IUI

Our doctor said that we can also have sex around the same time as our IUI. Is this good to do or not?

My opinion;

Yes,
We have more sperm there but does that make his clinic sample weaker if we do it the night before?
More sperm in there, higher chance?

No
There will be so much dead sperm in there that the nice washed sperm won't be able to see where they are going and get through.

I too have been wondering about this!!!!!!!! Except only from the point of view from the fluids being in there as hubby doesn't have any sperm to be dead!

I am wondering but feel too embarrased to ask my clinic about it, also i don't want them to be able to tell which i guess they will once they are looking up there! Not sure what to do - i guess for me its different, im not wanting to do it as one last go - but more to be close as its such a big thing for us using donor etc..................

Polly, since your hubby does not have any sperm then the fluids will not go past the cervix they just drip out. Doctor will put the sperm in the uterus passing the cervical canal altogether. You are ok. As for Jane, It would not hurt to try however if you could not get pregnant because your cervical mucus is hostile it will kill the sperm before it even gets past the cervix so you IUI as I said before is put directly into the uterus. Hope this helps. This is what my doctor told me.

DH has apparently got great sperm, I just want to make sure that it's the best quality before we try so I'm not sure if he should abstain for a few days so that the quality is better. So many questions!
Polly, I don't know the answer for you. Henrietta's advice sounds good but I'm worrying about too many dead sperm being there and the good guys not being able to swim through I read on a website somewhere (so it must be true ) that too much dead sperm can hinder conception.

TMI WARNING!!!!! We just did it the night before and i made hubby pull out. Not as fun but he was happy anyway. When we found out he was azo (no sperm) i gave all our condoms to my 17 year old brother - this would have been ideal now that i think about it.

jane - what did your doctor advise?

PS Hubby won't have sex if we get pregant as he thinks its like tapping on the baby's forehead. My god, the things males come up with!

I haven't asked yet. Will ask nearer the time when we have our first ultrasound.
I keep looking at the condoms in our bathroom cupboard and thinking we should give them away too

Hi girls, you girls are too funny . How is everything going for you two. I started my stims on Monday. Have ultrasound on the 29th to see how many follies. Doctor has me on 150iu per day of Gonal F & Follistim. We shall see what happens ladies. What stage are you ladies in? Good luck to all of us.
