Our first Cycle

Post by SATX »

Wife and i are going through our first IVF cycle. I came up with low sperm count after 2 years of standard attempts, we decided to go with IVF w/ ICSI.

After a slow start, and having to go back and purchase more really really expensive medicines :( , we finally went for the egg retrieval Friday. They ended up retrieving 28 eggs!!! Which seem'd like overkill, but hey, if it gets the job done, im all for it.

We got the call saturday that 18 fertilized!!!

My wife go's back in today for the implantation. Crossing our fingers, and hopefully on Memorial Day we will get the good news.

Im just elated things are working out so well so i wanted to vent in what is a very stressfull time.

You have come to the right place! Awesome egg count and to have 18 fertilized is great. Hopefully you will have some to freeze for later. How many will you transfer? Good luck and keep us posted.

Wife just called.

We had 12 make it to a viable stage.

a few were already 9 10 and 11 cell. They didnt transfer those as the doc said apparently if the advance too fast sometimes that can cause rejection.

The transferred 2 emby's. 1 -- 7 cell and 1 -- 8 cell. The doc told her that if they can transfer an 8 cell, the rate of pregnancy is 70%. which is great news.

im so freaking excited. I really hope this works, as im such a pessimist i never expected it to work so smooth on the first attempt.

Hi,
Good Luck! Just wanted you to know that we also did our first IVF with ICSI and it worked the first try. We also had a low sperm count. I am now 15 weeks pregnant witht twins and we have 6 frozen blastocysts! I was beginning to think that we may never have children. Wishes do come true and we will all be blessed some how. Don't give up hope and remember that it CAN work on the first try... Good Luck again, keep me posted! --JESS

Well...we got discouraging news today. Only 1 Blastocyst was frozen :(

had 12 cultured.

I dont know if this is bad news or not...i really don't know how to interpret those kind of results, but it just doesnt seem promising.

My thought on that (and take it for what it's worth because I am in no way a doctor) is that embryos do better in a nice warm mommy than in a cold petrie dish. So just because your freezing rate wasn't great doesn't mean that the two embrios inside your wife aren't snuggling in while we speak!

Wishing you the best of luck!
