hi fsh levels??

Post by joviwish »

hi, i woz wondering if anyone could help as im unclear on a few things that have been said.

We went to a consultant (ours was on hols) and were told that my DH had nill sperm and that if we did have an Tesa or Pesa Retrieval done that our results could go either way.

Our consultant phoned us today and has told us that DH has an excellent FSH level and this goes in our favour as sperm are being produced even though the body is killing them (DH had a vast reversal 4yrs ago).

Is this right?? our the odds in favour of them retrieving sperm higher for us from these FSH results, i know it may sound stupid but though FSH levels were more important for females??

Could some one please let me know, dont want to start thinking that everything will be ok and then be shattered when they cant find anything,
thanks Caz

hey joviwish, I'm jovigal......I wonder if we like the same band??? :) anyway, this is what I found on the net...
In men, high FSH levels are due to primary testicular failure. This can be due to developmental defects in testicular growth or to testicular injury, as indicated below.

Developmental defects:

Gonadal agenesis
Chromosomal abnormality, such as Klinefelters syndrome
Testicular failure:

Viral infection (mumps)
Trauma
Radiation
Chemotherapy
Autoimmune disease
Germ cell tumor

hi jovigal,i note that you are off to see my boys very soon, lucky you, am sooooooooooo jealous!!
Took DH to see them in August 06 and now think he loves someone new!!!
To say he was blown away is an understatement!!

Thanks for the reply,am very new to this board and trying to get to grips with all the abbrevations :? took me ages to find out what DH was!!

DH has an excellent FSH level apparantly better than mine!!! just that his body kills all sperm off before it makes the ejaculate. WAs just confused as due to have a sperm aspiration and didnt know if the good FSH levels make this a better chance for us?? :?

The whole process is so long, but reading through these boards and reading what people go through and the support others members give each other made we want to join after mths of just being a spectator!!

Hope you dont mind if i do ask you a few questions over the next few wks?

Joviwish, FSH is a hormone that is produced in the brain (actually hypophysis) in both males and females and it basically stimulates our testicles/ovaries to produce sperms/follicles. That is why it is important in both men and women.
We hear it more for women because it tend to be us the ones who get checked more, but if there is male factor they will check all of this as well in them.
Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK in your cycle!!!
