Post by anne1112 »

Hi, can anyone tell me if it is normal to have cramps and feel uncomfotable after the retreival. Yesterday i could not walk, today is a little better. ... don't know if i will have a day 3 trnf or day 5...

also, after the transfer should i lie down, or just sit. Can i walk, or i have to restrict my movement...

I can tell you that I had my retrieval yesterday and I was very sore and had alot of pain walking or moving in anyway that affected my stomach muscles. The nurse told me that a very wide range of reactions was normal. Some people have basically no reaction and others get cramps so bad that they are like early labor cramps because your uterus is contracting. I too feel a little better today, but I am mostly sitting around to avoid the pain of movement.

I don't know if you have tried heating pads but that apparently helps sometimes and as since the embryos aren't there yet there is not a danger to them from the heat.

Good Luck.

Discomfort

Thanks,
I am keeping my body warm too, hoping it would heal the soreness.

Good Luck to you for the transfer.

By the way regarding your second question. The policy from my RE is to lie in the office 1 hour. Then 48 hours of bed rest. Not strict bed rest though. They said I can sit or lie down and that I am allowed to get up to go to the bathroom and eat, but that I should be on bed rest as much as possible.

I was fairly sore after both my ET's. The last one I got pain about 6 hours afterwards in my upper abdomen. I've heard that's normal. It happens from the excess fluid in your ovaries leaking out to the rest of the abdomen, and also from how much they have to manipulate during the procedure to get the eggies out. I personally think it also is probably worse for those who have more follicles, but I could be wrong on that. It should get better.

Thanks. My RE said you mightg have pain if you are hyperstimulating. SOmetimes they do not take out eggs that are deep the ovary, so you might overstimulate. I am drinking a lot of gatorate and cystal light today, just to make sure that the body is not overstimulating, and i can be ready for a day 3 transfer. At least I would get to be home for the weekend and rest.
Good Luck
