Excuses

Post by shantala »

Hi everyone

with my first IVF we told absolutely everyone (including my employer) but with this second one we're telling very few people. (and new employer who doesnt know). I will therefore have to come up with an awful lot of excuses for scans, EC, ET, not feeling like socialising, etc. so......I was wondering what kind of excuses people have come up with?? (thought we could have a bit of a laugh with this as well)...

i'm sure i remember someone on the dec/jan thread telling us that they put a non-alcoholic drink in a lager bottle.....

I told almost everyone too except some of my in-laws and my excuse for not going over to their house one night during stims was that we had friends from out of town staying with us. We had a good laugh sitting in front of the tv talking about our out of town guests, lol
Hey, does your fertility center offer scans early in the morning? Sometimes you can get in before you go to work so that your employee is none the wiser.
Good luck :)

With your employer shantala, I would get your GP to sign you off, but right something else on the note!!!
Such at Gynae problems! Ovarian Cyst! anything really!!

As for your friends, why dont you be the driver on a couple of nights then thats ok, as for scans, one could be dental appt. One could be flat tyre on your car, Cat/dog was ill, needed to be rushed to hosp/vet.
Flood in your house, someone broke in to your house over night, got the police coming over..... employer excuse are easier....

but friends are harder, sure they know!!!

Best of luck When is down reg due to start??

Offer to be the designated driver every time you go out in a group for dinner, cocktails ets... I didn't tell my brother and his wife at all and drinking would have been the dead give away for me so I told them that I started getting headaches from wine and they bought it.

I used the excuse of feeling ill, allergy attacks, and even (lol) cramps for not wanting to go anywhere.

I told my employer but you could cover with some sort of mystery illness - chronic (fill in the blank). That way you can do scans and they will think you are having tests. I would take a day of vacation for EC and then call in with the flu three or four days later for transfer so you have more time for bed rest.

Friends are harder but really how much do they need to know and how observant are they? They won't know you are going in for scans and such and you can use the not feeling well excuse with them for EC and tranfer too. They will be very surprised and excited for you when you finally tell them the good news, that they won't care you didn't share right from the start.

Good luck!

Hi Shantala, how you doing?, excuses for an employer, diarroeha and sickness, they won't want you anywhere near them. I have the opposite problem I am the employer (3 staff)and my FIL works for us, and they don't know anything, trying to give staff days off when we are trotting off to the hospital every other day is a nightmare, holidays etc, have to be jigged its a logistical nightmare.

Freinds are harder, I am on a constant diet, antibiotics for an infection, only had questions off one couple, but i managed to get round it, although i think she has sussed really but respects our privacy. Our social life has taken a dive in the last year as we find it easier to be just the two of us.

Good Luck

Hiya hun,

Ok - excuses for work (not to be taken seriously, just wanted to make u smile)

1) "Sorry that im late (Obvisouly when u have an early scan and get to work after it) but DH and i were having rampant sex and we didnt realise the time" - trust me, ur employer will be more embarrased than u lol

2) "I'm finding that the job is interfering with my drinking."

3) "I thought I wanted a job, but it just turns out I just want the money."

Anyone else got any funny ones ........

As for excuses to ur friends hun, i too heard on the other thread that one lady put water into an empty bottle of lager when friends came around, no one asked no questions so she got away with it. Failing that i would say that u are on antibiotics for an infection (from the dentist usually works - no alcohol at all with the dentist's tabs lol)
I know its gonna be hard for u with work as u have only just started a new job, but remember hun, u are more important than worrying about ur employer. U can always phone in sick with the flu for ur EC and ET days off - the day before u go in, just start coughing and spluttering about the place, block ur nose and talk daft into the phone then it wont come as too much of a shock for them
