Had egg retrieval this morning- 9 eggs

Post by amh6967 »

I'm a little disappointed in the fact they were only able to find 9 eggs. I had sooo many follicles they kept telling me I was packed full. I know that all it takes is one... does anyone else have experience with so few eggs @ ER? Anyone had success?

I had my egg retrieval the other day- they also only got 6 eggs and I was very disappointed given that I am only 29 and our issue is male factor. However, 5 of the 6 fertilized and today we transferred two gorgeous looking embryos; we froze one, and the other two were not great looking. We'll find out in 2 weeks if either of the embryos took.

So stay optimistic b/c 9 is a great number.

Good luck!

Nine eggs is wonderful!!!! I know a lot of women that would be happy to get that many. It only takes one. Keep us posted on how you are doing. When will you get the fert report? When is your transfer? Take care.

Although it sounds great to get a ton of eggs I can tell you first hand that it was very painful and in the end we still only transferred three. I would have been happy to have 9 instead of the 49 I had because I was so sore that I couldn't sleep for over 9 weeks after my transfer. Also, now that we had such a high number frozen (26) I think about them all the time. It's not likely that the entire lot of them will ever get used and it breaks my heart to think of what they could have been.

This entire process leaves us all with so many "what if's" and counting numbers. In the end we all just want one egg to make it into that healthy baby. It's hard on us all no matter what our numbers are.

Good luck to you and your DH. I will be sending you all the best baby dust! Can't wait to see you post your BFP!!!!!

Take care~

I know a lady (i keep refering to her, but she has such a great story - Ems) who had just 3 eggs - 2 of which fertalized - but on day 2/3 the embryos were only a 2cell (they prefer them to be at least 4-6) and she was so disapointed during her 2ww, convinced it wouldnt happen for her - but guess wot - It Did, and she is now 16+ weeks.

So it doesnt really matter how many eggs u get, i really feel that its quality not quantity that matters. It does only take 1, thats the important fact to remember.

Dont be disapointed with 9 cos 9 is great, 9 is fab actually! I had 12 the last time but only fertalized 2 (through our own choice)

You are doing really well, so please dont worry. Please let us know tomorrow how any fertalized, i will be waiting for ur messsage, good luck :D

the stimulants have reeked such havock on my body, i really don't know if I will be ever me up for another live cycle, so Im really hoping for a great transfer, and least a couple frosties for future attempts just in case.

Angela - Best wishes for a wonderful and sucessful ET on Monday! 9 eggs are a great number! We had 10 eggs this time and 9 fertilized and 2 - 8 celled ones were transferred and now I am pregnant. I had 20 to work with last time I did IVF in 2005 which also resulted in my beautiful DD. So the more eggs you have to work with the better - but as all we say it only takes one for success! Sending you much Baby Angel Dust!

Love,
Christine

Hi my 1st IVF was Jan 2001. I got only 8 eggs, four fertilized, I had two put back and only one was good enough to freeze. The three that were good were all top grade. I had twins in sept 2001 8 weeks premature!!!

The frozen embie did not survive the thawing the year later.

My second IVF was in March 2003. I got 9 eggs, five fertilized, I had two put back and again only one was good enough to freeze. I was pregnant but miscarried more or less straight away.
I then thawed my only embie in the June 2003 and had it put back, I had my third child in March 2004!!!!

Goodluck To You

There is hope!!! I had 9 eggs retrieved as well. 7 fertilized and were all too good to choose for a day 3 transfer. So we did a day 5 transfer and I had only 3 great looking blasts....so they transfered 2 and froze 1.

I was upset that they only got 9 as well.....but I got my BFP on Monday!! I'm scheduled for my first beta tomorrow. Hope all goes well.
