Hi, i saw your post and thought i'd reply.
I have smoked for about 15 years and i always said to myself, as soon as we started treatment i would stop. When it finally came down to it, i couldn't, the stress of going through treament made it hard for me to stop. I know a lot of people would be disgusted and would say "that's just an excuse, if you really wanted to stop you would"
Well, everyone is different and i just didn't have the strength to give up. I smoked throughout my treatment and i honestly have to say it didn't have any impact on it at all.
I responded very well to the drugs, they collected 22 eggs on the day of my EC (unfortunately i was told any more than 21 eggs and the cyle would have to be a total freeze all due to the risk of OHSS). 21 of the eggs were suitable for ICSI and we ended up with 13 top notch embryos (which all had to be frozen). A few months later after my body settled back down i had an FET (i was still smoking), they transferred 2 excellent quality Grade 1 embryos, unfortunately that ended up in a negative result. The following month i went back for another FET, another 2 excellent Grade 1 embryos were transferred and my result was positive. I did smoke throughout my pregnancy aswell, but i cut back, some days i was down to only 4 or 5, other days i had a few more more.
We will be celebrating our daughter Kady's 1st birthday at the weekend.
She is a very happy, healthy, contented little girl and just too smart for her own good at times.
I hope this helps you a little.
Take care

Michelle

thank you so much michelle for writing me i am still going to try my hardest to quit now but i thank for real because that was on of the biggest things on mind and i was little worried i even thought the reason why i had my last bfn is because of that because they say it effects the eggs and implantation. and congradulations on your baby girl. and i hope she has a blessed birthday

Look hun I smoked up to the day of transfer and I got BFP first time with one egg, I have had maybe two or three cigs since then only cause I had to or explode. My baby is fine with no problems so far I am a little over 17weeks now. On another note my best ffiend became preg naturally with a boy and she smoked through her whole preg all but one month her 7th I think New Years Eve thing, anyway her boy was born April 5th of this yr at a whoping 8 lbs and 14 oz 21 1/2 in long if her smoking impacted ihis weight I annot imagine how big he would have been if she hadnt smoked. and she was induced 4 days early too. Voluntarily because of distance to hospital.
So here is my theory on it, for what it is worth. Do whatever you can if you can't quit try to at least cut back. I always used to hate when people would say this to me, but after 14 yrs of TTC I understand it now. HON, IF IT IS MEANT TO BE IT WILL BE no matter what you do.
Case in point, My mother has a friend whose daughter is not what you would call a upstanding person, she has two kids, two different dads, and doesn't care about them, she got pregnant again, "believes birth control made her fat" anyway she was on crack so bad that she would not go to a dr cause she knew that they would take this baby and put her in jail, her baby survived all this partying and nonsense. They are pretty reslient to alot of things, I think basically it is a better safe than sorry theory.
Another point to this is that stress is jsut as bad sometimes worse than smoking can be.!!!
I hope this helps hun.

No offense meant, I know its hard to quit, I've done it. But if you really want a baby so bad, wouldn't that be a worthwhile sacrifice?

I don't care how big someone's baby is, its selfish to smoke during pregnancy. You wouldn't drink poison, why purposefully breath it in?

That is great I am very proud of you!!!! I will give a quick idea that helps alot. REWARD!!! Reward yourself every week on the day that you quit indulge in something just for you, now I am not saying go buy a new pair of shoes or such, just a little something you like or have been wanting. Also you can save the money that you would have spent, like cigs are 4.oo a pack so put back 4.00 a day and then go buy you something nice. It helps and please feel free to come on here and vent if you need too.
Another thing I want you to know is that stopping smoking is one of the hardest things to do during this time because it is stressful, if something happens and you slip, dont give up just give yourself a good kick in the butt and throw down the rest.
Again I am very proud of you!!! keep up the great work!!!!
