My husband and I are going through a natural miscarriage now but the only hope that we have is to look forward to another IVF cycle. I was wondering if anyone has miscarried and then got pregnant the second time. If so, were your symptoms any different than the miscarriage? I am afraid that I may experience the same symptoms the next time and fail again.
snemo - I'm so very sorry for you. Please take care of yourself and your DH. It is a traumatic experience, so take the time you need to recover as you can.
To answer you question, I had a m/c w/ my first IVF and did get pregnant again with 3rd attempt. I had 1 bfn in between. I've seen many on this board with a m/c have success in future attempts. If there's one bit of hope it's that you were able to get a bfp and this should give you promise for the future. The pregnancy symptoms were rather the same in the first few weeks and I can say that I was extremely nervous until I got through the first trimester. But, take it one day at a time for now.
Snemo, I am so sorry to hear your news. I know how desperately upsetting it is, all I can say is that my DH and I spent some time together just the two of us and that helped me get through it. We had a BFN with a FET after the m/c and then, on our second round of IVF ICSI we had a BFP - currently 10 wks. Unfortunately quite a lot of people do m/c with IVF but often the clinic learns more about how you respond to the drugs each go and your odds actually improve, especially if, as happened with you, you almost got there. I know its difficult now but you're right to focus on the positives of a new cycle, a meeting with your consultant should also help. I had some immune blood tests after the m/c just to make sure that we didn't have a problem there.
This second round BFP was abslutely terrifying, I had spotting again and was literally hyperventilating from worry when waiting for my HCG blood tests. Every time my boobs were less sore I'd worry, every time I went to the loo I would expect to find blood. There's no doubt a +ve after a m/c is not an easy time, but with each week you feel a little more confident. I found the clinic very helpful about offering me extra blood tests and then scans to help put my mind at rest.
Look after yourself, and treat yourself kindly.
I wish you all the best
