Hi,
My first IVF attempt ended in a BFN. I am devastated, trying not to think about it. Ours was a male factor problem and they did not find anything wrong with me so we thought IVF with ICSI will work for us, apparently it did not.
How soon can I start the next cycle? Do the REs order more tests before a second cycle. Also what are the chances of success with a second cycle.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Rdoc
Did you have your follow up with your RE yet? I just had my follow up yesterday for my failed IVF. He went through all of our records to find what we could do differently from last time. He would like to see us do IVF again, but it will be hard to find the $$. In our case, it was likely an egg issue, that we weren't expecting. I'm sure your dr will look at how well you responded to the drugs and the quality of the embryos... best of luck and I'm sorry it didn't work!
Kategj,
I have a meeting with the RE coming up soon. Don't know what went wrong. Although I know I can't blame myself for what happened, I cannot help but think somehow there was something wrong with me that was the reason.
We paid for 2 cycles together, this might be my last try. It is just too much to go through emotinally, physically and financially.
Good luck to you.

rdoc - hey, i know exactly how you feel. same here, our first ivf didnt work. we only have male issues and there is nothing wrong with me (and i'm young) so we expected it to work and it didnt. its very difficult to not wonder if there is anything wrong. i had a follow up over the phone and they said that everything went by the textbook and that i had 2 textbook embies transferred but that at the end of the day it's luck too. its just like trying to roll a 6 on a dice. they even said that they wouldnt change anything this time round. its hard to swallow and it has taken me these last 2.5 months to get myself back to wanting to do it all again. but i'm definitely ready this time. not only do i feel less worried about stuff (as i know what to expect) but i'm also more cautious about feeling soooo optimistic whcih i think is a good thing.
anyway, good luck with your next try!!

Shantala,
Thanks for your reply. Good luck with your next cycle.
I will meet my RE tomorrow. I want to start the next cycle right away if possible, I don't know how long they usually wait.
Rdoc.
rdoc - good luck with your app tomorrow! let us know how you get on. with my clinic they make you wait 2 AFs (your BFN AF and another) and then you book in with your 3rd. however, i have looked at other clinics and some will let you start with your next natural AF.
good luck!

I too am able to relate completely to what you are feeling right now. I am going to be starting my 5th attempt shortly and so far the only problem they've been able to detect is male factor. Two of my four previous attempts were chemical pregnancies so they tell me that is good - at least I can get pregnant. It is hard though. I'd like to know why it isn't working. What they told me the first two times is that a BFN is not uncommon because it is like trying naturally and it doesn't always work the first month of trying. I am sure all will go well your next time!
My first clinic made me wait a rest period - so the BFN AF and then another, and then they started me on the bcp the AF after that so it was more like 3 months from the BFN. I am now at a new clinic and they don't make me take a rest period and they don't put me on bcp pill so it can happen much faster which I like. My response was better last time around than it has ever been. They thought that might be due to the fact I wasn't on the bcp beforehand?? Who knows?
Good luck with your appointment tomorrow!
rdoc- I know just how your feel. I have had two IVF cycles and got BFNs on both. It is really hard emotionally (and financially). We are meeting with our RE next week to see what to do. I suspect that is is an old egg issue considering my age. They haven't been able to find anything else wrong with my husband or me. If we try again I think it is likely we will use donor eggs and I have no idea how long a wait it is. I only waited one month between the last two IVF cycles but every clinic is different. Good luck and keep us posted.
Thanks everyone for your support.
I went to meet my RE today. She wants to try a slightly diffe rent protocol next time because although I had 20 follicles growing they got only 6 eggs that were all mature. We will not start until November because of my work and travel issues. Will take a break until then.
Good luck to everyone.
