change in bleeding question

Post by hhb »

Hi ladies -

I am apologizing ahead of time if this is too much information, but I didn't get alot of answers at my Ob's yesterday.

I am 15 weeks with twins and started spotting early on in this pregnancy, mostly pinkish/reddish mucous. It turned to bright red blood about four weeks ago. I have had several u/s since conception that have all showed everyone is fine and growing. My last one was almost three weeks ago (while bleeding) and I have another one on Friday.

After bleeding straight for three weeks, the last week the blood has changed. It is now darker (not brown but maroonish) and thick, almost pasty. My nurse told me that the bleeding/spotting can taper off into the second trimester and I'm wondering if this is a sign of the bleeding starting to slow down, or if it means something else. We think we heard two heartbeats yesterday (he checked in 4 places and said it would be unlikely to hear one hearbeat four different times, but they are still too small for him to guarantee) and I am hoping for another good ultrasound.

I'm just going crazy with the bleeding and was hoping someone else had experienced this.

Thanks in advance, and again sorry for TMI.

I have been bleeding on and off the whole time. I am now 12 weeks. In the last week, the bleeding has gone from bright red to very dark brown and pasty. I have had four ultrasounds, and I am assured everything looks fine. Good growth and strong heart rate. It is always worrisome to see the bleeding, but I have begun to resign myself to the fact that it may linger the whole time. I have heard of others who bled lightly the entire pregnancy. I hope that it tapers off in this 2nd trimester as well. I stopped PIO the other day, so I expected the bleeding to come back a bit. So far, there has been no real increase - just the same amount, but brown. A friend told me something very encouraging that I think back on - once these little ones implant and get beyond about 9-10 weeks, they are VERY hard to dislodge. Very stubborn little things by design. So, you are probably just fine at 15 weeks! Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your reply. I do feel better knowing that someone else has experienced the same changes. I previously had a miscarriage so when I see blood it is so frightening (had not a drop with my son). The ultrasounds are always encouraging but for me my spirits only seem to stay up for a week or so, then I start worrying again. I'm hoping Friday's u/s is good.

Thanks again, and good luck with your pregnancy.
