Hi all have not been on for quiet a while have been sick and find it hard to sit in one spot for so long.
I had my first scan on the 22nd and everything was great all measurements are what they should be and a heart rate of 170.
I have been experiencing some pain but not like AF pain different so i mentioned this when having the u/s and they found my ovaries are still very enlarge has anyone had this at this stage or of any stage of the preg?
And if so would you know when i can expect them to go down?
Just another question are any of you pregnant women having sex it does worry me but does not feel natural not doing it. can it be of any harm?
Thankyou any replies would be great.
Hope all is well.

Hi N77 and congratulations on your pregnancy. I had enlarged ovaries that went down at about 12weeks i think. I remember it being painful down my right side. As for the sex issue has your doctor has told you that you are high risk i would get advice from him first if not i guess it is ok. We abstained for the first 12 weeks and when i asked my doc if it was ok he couldn't believe we hadn't been doing it sooner because its natural and wont harm the baby. Anyway i am now nearly 31 weeks and don't feel like it at all. Good luck with everything.

Congrats on your pregnancy. I did hyperstimulate and my ovaries were quite enlarged for a long time. I think by the time I was 13 weeks both were back to normal, but I had had an u/s around 11ish weeks and one was still enlarged. I wasn't in pain for that long, probably until around 8-9 weeks. Best of luck to you

hey, congrats on your pregnancy, my ovaries are slightly enlarged ( I am 8 weeks as u r ) and every time I am doing u/s nurse always says no relationships till 12 weeks.
I got pregnant after a FET (3 mo. after egg retrieval) and I still had trouble with painful ovaries in the first trimester. I did not think it was hyperstimulation. I was on progesterone shots which means my ovaries were working hard to make estrogen and progesterone but still did not produce enough. I attributed the pain to this rather than hyperstimulation. My 2 cents.
I didn't realize that could happen but it does make sense. I got pregant with my first IVF and hyperstimulated so I don't have any experience with anything else. I was just assuming that N77 had hyperstimmed.

Just FYI - During a normal pregnancy, ovaries produce progesterone and estrogen for the first 12 weeks at which point placenta takes over (according to my physiology text book).
Thanks so much everyone for your information have really been stressing but you guys made me feel better.
Anyway i went and had a scan and my right ovary is very enlarged and full of blood its soon big its trying to twist. So worried.
They can not do anything for me but if the pain worsens i have to go straight to hospital. i have everything crossed because now i have seen the little bubba i have fallen in love i would die if anything happened now.
Thanks

Seems rather common. Mine were still the size of a man's fist at 9 weeks. My Dr. just took it in stride and didn't get me worked up because I was pg. I am so grateful for that. Also, after the 2ww my Dr. said all was good to go in the sex department. I did a lot of reading and never read anything that said to stop unless it was painful. So we went ahead as normal. Never a problem and for us it was a great way to feel normal again. I did read that you shouldn't have toy stimulated orgasms though because they result in stronger orgasms and can lead to contractions. Is this all TMI!!!! Sorry

Congrats on your pregnancy! About your ovaries.....they will continue to stay big until around the 12 week mark as the corpus luteum (empty follicles) are producing progesterone to support the pregnancy. At 12 weeks the placenta takes over and your ovaries will return to normal size.
I'm a radiographer and I let one of the student sonographers scan me and she said "oh look, you have a kidney in your pelvis!" (some people have them) and I said no, thats just my ovary! It was very funny.
As for the sex question....We abstained during the 2ww and then we have been having a regular sex life since then. In fact, my libido has tripled in the last 2 months and I am the one chasing my DH around the bed room. I am currently 35.5 weeks pregnant with twins. I think that if you are both up for it and can find a position that doesn't put pressure on your tummy, its fine. In the last month, we have been using positions that reduce penetration though as my cervix is getting a beating from twin 1's head as it is.
Some people say that sex can bring on early labour, but my research into this has shown that there is no evidence to support this (only theory) and all the books say have fun trying!
Great to hear from another Aussie!

I read your post from a little less than a month ago. I wanted to know if you are still having issues with the enlarged ovaries? I am 8 weeks pregnant (as you were when you posted your message) and I am experiencing that very same issue. Just yesterday, DH and I went to the RE and heard baby's heart beat (around 170) and it was the most beautiful song I've ever heard! I, too, was complaining of a lot of right-sided pain abdominal pain. They saw that my ovaries were still very enlarged. I don't know if this is a side-effect of my progesterone and estrogen supplements, or if these are the after-effects of my hyperstimulation. Either way, I have read everyone's posts and i do feel a little bit better (as far as knowing that this problem is not specific to only me). I was wondering though, if you have delved a little bit further into the cause of the enlarged ovaries. Are they really the ovaries working overtime? Would they have become enlarged if one didn't have hyperstimulation? Does this necessarily happen to people who have not had IVF? Any info that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
