overseas ivf

Post by kaarent »

Hi There, my partner and I have been considering using an overseas program such as ivfvacations.com for our attempt at ivf due to the major difference in cost. Does anyone have any information or experience they could share on this topic? thank you very much, kaaren

IVF in Thailand

Post by Curmudgeon »

Kaaren,

I can't comment on ivfvacations, but I can tell you a little about our experience with IVF in Thailand.

Last year we traveled to Thailand twice for IVF. Below I have cut and pasted a portion of that message.

I will update the message below with the comment that my wife delivered April 19 and we have both boys home now. I was wrong about the girls.

Start of previous post.

" My wife and I just returned from a trip to Thailand to undergo IVF and we wanted to share our experience. We used Synphaet Hospital and highly recommend it. The staff was very professional and friendly. They spoke english which was a plus for me as my Thai language skills leave a lot to be desired.

My wife traveled to Thailand the end of September to meet the doctor and set it up. I followed her a couple weeks later once we had a schedule set.

We had to use a donor for the eggs for a couple reasons. A fertility specialist in the US told us that our chances were a lot better because of my wife's age. We are both over forty. The other reason was that my wife underwent surgery to remove a cyst after the initial examination. She was told by the doctor that the surgery may not be neccessary, but we wanted to hedge our bet so we had it performed. The surgery was minimally invasive so we were able to proceed with the IVF.

The donor in our case was a niece that volunteered. The hospital told us they could make arrangements for a donor if need be, but we prefered using a family member.

I returned to the US ten days after the transfer. My wife remained another month in case we needed to try again. We didn't. Three days after I got back home, she found out that she was pregnant; two weeks later we found out it was twins. To soon to tell the sexes, but I'm betting on girls. Both our families run long on girls.

I don't want to write a book on this because I'm not sure how many are interested in traveling that far. But if anyone is interested, the costs are considerably lower even with the airfare. We would have been hard pressed to afford this in the US and we certainly couldn't have done it twice."

End of previous post.

If you or anyone else would like more information, please let us know.

Good luck.

Hi Karen,

I am about to start IVF tmt in Sweden. I found a link on this website called www.IVFSupportServices.com (I think that is the website!!) and they basically arrange everything for you. All my scans, drugs etc are done in the UK and then I travel to Sweden for the EC and ET and then come home.

Their success rates are about 56% and the clinic I am going to developed blastocyst transfers so they know what they are talking about. So far it has been so much easier than IVF in the UK, all my travel, accomodation and appointments are arranged for me and I also get a regular phonecall from the lady doing the organising to see how I am doing (she did her tmt's via this clinic and now has 3 children).

PM me if you want anymore info - where abouts are you?
