Hope you can help......I had a scan on Friday and there is evidence of a "Dichorionic/Diamniotic Pregnancy". Looked on the net but in simple terms WHAT IS THIS??
Also, although I know Dr's know best they told me I have an 8 week 1 day embryo at 15 mm. All the books I read indicate 15mm is 7 weeks which is what I thought (ET on 24 April).
I also have a 6wk embryo which they don't expect will survive due to being "significantly underdeveloped" and I have to have a rescan in two weeks. This is a 4mm embryo.
If I am 7 week as originally thought then there is only a week difference and not two so wonder on the chances of baby 2 catching up and being fine...Could it be simply down to one being 5 cell and one being a 4 cell at ET?
Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks xxxx

I'm sorry I can't help with your question, but I wanted to say at my 7 week scan I had one 6mm embryo (I had one 4 cell and a 6 cell transferred) no-one told me this was small, I'm now 16w 2d and my little one is doing fine. I hope your second scan brings you good news.

Thanks so much for your reply. The hos did say "in their experience they don't expect it will survive...". I assume as one is thriving they expect there is something genetically wrong with the other but I am praying my number 2 is a strong fighter. Best of luck to you x

Julie,
Congratulations!! I will keep my fingers crossed that your other little one grows fast to keep up with the other one and the next scan will bring you happy news.
Dichorionic(chorion means placenta, di means 2)di-amniotic - means the babies have their own seperate placentas and have their own amniotic sacs for nourishment
Dont worry too much and keep rubbing that belly and talking to them.

Julie!
Congrats and being pg and I hope your smaller fighter wins the battle as well! I'll be thinking of you and praying for your little ones!
If it is of any comfort, my twins were almost a week apart in growth in the beginning but became closer to the same size by week nine. I hope your little ones can do the same. I was worried but knew it was out of my hands. It's hard but just take care of yourself and keep faith that they will both be perfect.
Take care~

Julie,
I had something similar to you and sadly baby B didn't catch up, it sounds from the messages below that it can go either way though so don't give up hope. At my first scan (6wk 2 days) they saw two sacs and two heart beats, but even then the doctor thought that the second probably wouldn't survive, she wasn't too clear why I think mainly experience, it was smaller and the hb was slower, but she said she'd scan me again a week later. At the 7wk and 2 days scan there were still two hb but the second one was visibly smaller, still really at around 6 weeks, and she said that as it wasn't developing she was 99% sure it wouldn't make it. I was glad that we had been prepared, and to be honest we are just thrilled that we are expecting one healthy baby, its more than I ever believed possible. The 10 week scan showed just one, very healthy, very active baby (amazing contrast to the 7 wk scan) and one gestational sac. The doctor assured us that it shouldn't cause the remaining feotus any problems.
I wasn't sure whether to write this, it seems very possible that everything will be fine, but I think I dealt with the news better because we had been prepared and I didn't ever really think of myself as pregnant with twins (to be honest I'm struggling to believe I am pregnant at all right now! I think it must a sort of protection mechanism). So I thought that perhaps this might be helpful to you in someway, especially as, if by any chance baby B doesn't make it, I was very relieved to find out that it shouldn't in anyway risk the surviving baby.
I wish you all the best and hope that you have an outcome like Kimberley rather than me!

Thanks for your reply - I think my feelings mirror yours entirely and my priority is my big miracle baby A! I too am struggling to find it all real but keeping positive and relying on mother nature. I am a great believer in fate and trust whatever happens is meant to be.
Thanks again and good luck to you
