Only 3 eggs collected so depressed

Post by Neeve »

Hi there I am so depressed I had my egg retrieval today and out of 14 follies only 3 eggs were collected. My doctor has got my treatment wrong and there was cysts in the follicules instead of eggs. I am doing IVF because of male factor and this is my 5th attempt no.4 was cancelled. In my other cycles I had plenty of eggs so I cant understand what went wrong.

I am so depressed and would love to hear any positive stories from women who had had a small no of eggs collected but that they got pregant.
The clinic is telling me to stay positive but it is nearly impossible I will know on friday morning I will see.....

Thanks

Neeve,

I understand your fears. I had only four follicles at retrieval time. I had five eggs collected, four looked good, and three fertilized. We put back all three (on day 3), and I am 12 weeks pregnant with one happy little baby. So far so good! Please don't give up hope. All it takes is ONE!! I know it is hard to believe and stay positive, but it is certainly possible with very few eggs. Best of luck to you!

hai neeve,
Dont worry. It needs only one to get pregnant. I am also on my second attempt. On my first they collected 7 but only one fertilized. But it came out negative. This time it was bit better and i am due to test on saturday. stay positivee.

It only takes one! Even though it is hard, try to stay positive. Has the clinic let you know the status of your embies yet? Keep us posted.

Keep your head up - it can happen! I had 13 follies but they only got 3 eggs - I never did get a complete answer about it, but they called it "empty follicle syndrome". My personal opinion is that they waiting too long to trigger and many of the eggs were overly mature and unretreivable.

My three eggs fertilized, though (we ended up with the best quality embryos we'd ever had). They transferred all three - I'm now 29 weeks pregnant. So, it can happen!

It only takes one good embryo, but I know how tough it is to go into the retrieval with such high hopes and come out with only 3 eggs. I cried for a day straight. But try to focus now on your embies coming back to you.

I wish you all the best! I'll pray your little eggs fertilize and divide well.

Hi guys can I just say that your support means so much to me everytime I check my emails somebody has replied I really appreciate all your kind words it is really getting me through this I thank you all.

To keep you updated I rang the clinic this morning, after the ICSI is done they but them in a locked fault and will not open it until tomorrow morning so I really to not know how they are doing. I am praying that they are dividing well and that tomorrow I will be called in to have them transferred.
I really dont know what to think this whole treatment is a disaster in my mind I was told to trigger at day 9 and all these cysts which is new, the treatment was not right for me and I am so worried that the eggs they got are not good quality sorry for being so miserable it is just that I really believed that this time would be so right....

Sorry for moaning and thanks for listening.

Neeve,
You sure don't have to apologize. We all know how difficult this whole process can be. I have found, more often than not, that the news I've received has been disappointing - I haven't produced as many eggs as I though, not as many eggs fertilized as I thought, my cycle was cancelled (twice), no eggs taken to the blast stage were worth freezing, etc.

But you have three eggs and they say that it is typically a 70% fertilization rate which is 2 of the 3 eggs. So, if you have 2 eggs to transfer that is awesome!

I will be anxious to hear what you find out tomorrow. I know you are a fellow 5th timer (I will be starting mine in a week or so) so my thoughts are with you!!!

Hi Neeve,

I had 20 folliciles last cycle of ivf and on day of retrieval I only got 4 eggs and all the follicles had cysts in them, I had been put under a general anaesthetic as I was in alot of pain and to wake up and be told I only had 4 eggs was devastating. I cried alot that day. They did ICSI and all 4 fertilised and were grade 1.

Unfortunately I didnt get pregnant, but am now on day 7 following FET and still living in hope. If this doesnt work we have to go through the whole thing again.

I wish you all the luck in the world.
Take care

Hi Neeve

I have just seen your post and wanted to give you some hope for the future. I had 2 eggs collected on my 1st IVF attempt, they both fertilised but unfortunately it was unsuccessful. However, on the 2nd attempt, I had just 3 eggs, only 2 of which fertilised. When I had the embryos transferred on day 3 the Drs said not to expect too much as one embryo had got to 4 cell, which they like to see, but had slowed right down, and the other had only got to a 2 cell, therefore a slow starter. I cried and cried and thought it was all over. I prepared myself for the worst but was really shocked when on day 12 I did a PG test and it was positive!

I know this might not help you much but it really is down to luck and the hand of fate. Keep the faith and your dream will come true.

Good luck

Problems with eggs - dont give up hope!

Post by Mandyluckypants »

Hi

I usually only read messages on this forum but I feel the need to share my experience.

I have recently been given a BFP, am currently 7 weeks and 1 day! Due to my age (38), i was given an ovarian reserve test which gave extremely poor results. 0.0???. I had resigned myself to the fact that it was going to be a really poor outcome for us and tried to keep my DH realistic.

My egg recovery was really bad, my right ovary hid and proved too much of a challenge for my clinic. Eventually ONE egg was collected from the left. Fortunately it fertilised and became a good grade embryo. I think the embryologist was that surprised she came to tell me in person how lucky I was having created this embryo from only ONE egg!

Well who would have thought I would get a BFP, but I have and 11 tests later and a scan last week, its become a reality.

So please please do not give up hope!!! It can work for you xx
