Hi
I have pcos . I don't get period if not on bcp's. My 1st ivf cycle had failed .I am planning to go for the next cycle in december .I want to know whether it is ok to take bcp for a long time before ivf cycle. I don't see any other option with me.I am worried because the bcp will oversuppress my ovaries .

I have PCOS too. I would strongly recommend that you do take the BCP. While on BCP, your lining does not get too thick, your ovaries are taking a rest and you can know in advance when your period will come.
At the reproduction center where I went, they ask that you take a month of BCP before starting a cycle of IVF anyways.
Personnaly, I was very fortunate, I did a cycle of IVM (in vitro maturation) and I got pregnant on the first cycle. I am now 14 weeks pregnant. I pray that everything continues to go well.
Good luck to you and your husband and keep hoping!

Thanks for the response.
Congrats on your pregnancy
I had also taken BCP for a month before IVF . But this time i would be taking it for a long time which worries me. I don't want to be oversuppressed but i have no other choice.I have read in other forums also that sometimes when you are too suppressed the RE asks to go Off the pill for a couple of months before IVF cycle begins because in oversuppressed state you will be needing high dose of medication to produce the follicles .I am so confused and worried .

I would not worry about being oversuppressed... I had 50 follicules when I started my month. It was way too much. none were developping. I had to take some Repronex to thicken my lining and make some of them grow.
At day 17, I still had more than 30 and only one was at 12 mm so they did the collection. They were only able to collect 8 eggs. 2 were mature, the rest were immature. They matured them in the lab and they were fertilized the following day.
If too many months on the BCP can do harm, I think that too long without the BCP can do just as bad.
Hi Coniela
I totally agree with you that not taking bcp can do me more harm .Is necon a good choice or Yasmin is better . I had taken both of them previously .
On Yasmin i had lost weight (i was not overweight though)
and i looked like i had jaundice ,my skin color had become pale .
But my primary physician says that yasmin is very good for pcos because it checks hirutism and acne .Other pills will just regulate the period and may or maynot check other problems associated with pcos.
