Frozen Embryos-Successful Thawing Question

Post by ltaylor »

Hi,

I am having my first FET next Friday, June 15. I would like to put back 3 embryos. I talked to my nurse today and she said they would thaw 4 in hopes to get 2 or 3 to put back. She said the success rate was 50% of them making it through the process.

For anyone who has done FET, is this what you were told and how many made it through the process to transfer?

Thanks.

Hi L - it really depends on the embryos. Last FET cycle for I was delighted when 2 out of 2 thawed successfully and were transferred and I still had some remaining. (Still BFN though). I have also read from others on the boards that sometimes none survive the thaw. It also depends on your clinic success at the thawing program. I think it is usually expected to lose some along the way.

I still have 6 in storage and should be having a transfer on Thursday/Friday. Hopefully some will make it - good luck with your FET cycle.

Hi

I had 6 embryos frozen. I hoped to be able to thaw 3 at a time and have 2 to put back. We had to thaw all 6 to get 2 of good enough quality. We had a BFN yesterday.

Angie65-Thanks for your response. I will have my transfer on Friday too so we will be on the 2ww together. Good luck with everything and keep me updated on how you are doing.

Luluxbx-Thanks for your response. I’m very sorry to hear about your BFN. I know how hard it is. Are you planning to do another cycle?

Beachbaby-Thanks for your response. Have you done any tests to see why you keep having the m/c? I had a m/c on my last cycle and am terrified that it may happen again.

Take care,
L

Hey Girl! I just did my FET and I thawed 2 and they both survived the thaw. My clinic thaw rates are 90%...but every clinic is different. Good luck!!!

Survival rates vary a lot, depending on the clinic and on exactly what type of embryos are frozen.

I've seen published survival rates from 0% to near 100%.

With blastocysts, we usually thaw two, and usually both survive. If by chance they don't survive, it's pretty easy to thaw a couple more.

I was told 70% survive thaw. I only had to 2 work with and both survived thaw. Unfortunately they did not survive in me.......BFN. Good luck.

Hi L - I just did my first FET after our failed first IVF cycle on April. We transfered "2" 6-day blasts on 6/4 my clinic thaw 2 and they both survive my RE told us during the transfer that almost all of the cells are intact. My clinic thawing stat are: 70% of good quality day 3 and 95% of blastocyst embryos.

Yesterday 6/9 was my 5 day after transfer I did HPT and I got really faint line. Today I did HPT again the clear blue digital show "Pregnant" and the first response positive line is much darker than yesterday.

Good luck on your FET..Hope you get BFP..BFP..BFP..

Congratulations.

Day 6 blasts often work better frozen than fresh.

Thanks Ghost - Your right, on our fresh cycle we transferred 2 excellent quality day 6 blasts. My RE told us during the transfer that those 2 blasts are the best of the best out of the 6 embryos that made it to day 6. We have really high hope unfortunately the result was BFN. This time I'm pretty happy that it gives us BFP. My blood test schedule is on Wednesday 6/13. Do you think detecting HCG 5 day after transfer is too early and normal?

It's a little unusual that it was strong enough to detect with an HPT this early, but the news is good. The stronger it is in these few critical days, the more likely the pregnancy to make it to birth.

I just finished up a FET at the beginning of the month. I had 12 frozen and we thawed 3. All 3 survived the thaw and we transfered one. I took a hpt the day before my "real" test and it came out positive. The positive test was confirmed when I went to the doctor!! :D Good luck to all of you!!!
